Guess we were still doing it.

I lifted mine too, and then Kaelle’s eyes flew open, her wind whipping through the area. “He’s here,” she whispered.

The crowd had gone quiet enough for us to hear.

“Who?” Laeli asked, frowning.

“One of the assassins. I can feel him.”

My eyes widened. “How can you feel him? How do you know?”

“I see and feel auras,” she said quietly. “My wind comes from them. And his isterrible.”

“What are you waiting for?” Ravv shouted from beside Kierden.

They couldn’t hear us.

They didn’t know what she was saying.

“What do we do?” I asked.

Kaelle’s eyes darted around the cage. “I don’t know.”

“We need to get everyone out,” Laeli said. Steam was coming off her arms and hands, a good sign that she was close to catching on fire.

“Oh, it’s far too late for that,” a low, masculine voice purred. The voice’s owner appeared beside us, and we all stumbled backward. “Which one of you is connected to Kier Jirev?”

The man was absolutely gorgeous, with tan skin, wavy black hair, and even bigger muscles than the fae kings. He looked more like a god than a monster. His eyes glowed red, and his lips lifted in a feral grin that spoke of sex and sin.

“The Beast of the Endless Wilds,” Laeli whispered.

The crowd in the stands was deadly silent.

His grin widened, and I saw his fangs. Was he a vampire somehow, too? “Hello, sweetheart. Is Kier using your magic to hide his?”

She said nothing, her eyes wide with panic. Flames danced just off her skin, not burning her but getting close.

As if on cue, yells and shouts erupted above us, and the fae started tomove. The door we’d come through to get into the cage rattled as if someone was trying to get through it, but the Beast must’ve locked it from the inside. I heard snarling and roaring from fae around us—maybe the kings—but assumed that if they hadn’t left yet, they would soon.

Kierden certainly needed to.

They were all warriors, but a smart warrior knew when to run. And clearly, that moment had come.

The wind blew against us as if we were in a ferocious storm. Laeli had caught fire, and was burning brightly.

Kaelle started to open her mouth, and I had the feeling she was going to lie for me. I couldn’t let that happen.

“I’m mated to Kier,” I blurted. “It’s me.”

His lips curved upward wickedly. “See how easy that was?” I blinked, and he was gone.

A massive hand closed over my shoulder, and another covered my mouth to muffle my scream. “You smell absolutely delicious, don’t you?”

My head was wrenched to the side a moment later, and I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder before a feeling of bliss overwhelmed me.

The pain vanished for a moment, but the bliss remained. Something rumbled against me as a male voice mused, “Surely a fae king of any worth would at least attempt to defend the female he’s claimed as his. Come out and fight, Kier.”

Another sharp pain stung my shoulder, and then my eyes closed as even more bliss followed.
