“I can run a rotation of patrols through the jungle to keep an eye out for the assassins,” Jor said from behind a few of the other males. “See if you can help her. We heard the Beast drank from her.”

Murmurs of agreement sounded.

I dipped my head toward him. “Thank you. And yes, she decided to tell the Beast that she was bonded to me. Probably saved the other humans’ lives.”

“Then she could’ve very well prevented another war, too,” a female I couldn’t see murmured.

“Plus, she grows the most delicious fruit. You’ve got to convince her to stay here, even after your bond breaks,” someone added.

A few people chuckled. I didn’t let myself react, afraid I’d make an admission that would let them know just how large my aversion was to the thought of letting her go.

“I’ll see what I can do.” With that, I headed into the castle to find my female.

I moved quickly through the hallways with Eisley, Sharp, and Death as we headed to my room.

“Dirue can’t get her to respond to anything,” Eisley said as we went. “When I told her you two had bonded, she said your blood can heal Nissa. Something about the magic of mate bonds.”

Dirue knew mate bonds better than the rest of us, since she was one of the only fae old enough to remember the details about them.

“What about Ravv’s human?” I asked.

“She’s not hurt in any way, just shaken up.”

“Good.”

I pushed the door to my room open.

My eyes landed on my female, and fear struck me hard.

She looked like death itself had come for her.

Her tan skin was grayish, and she was so damn still in my bed that it terrified me.

“Veil,” I snarled. “Someone should’ve come for mehoursago.”

Dirue had no bonded esu anymore; she had lost hers in a battle centuries earlier, so there was no beast to growl at me for getting angry with her.

“Her heart is still beating, but you’ll need to give her your blood; it will heal her much faster than anyone or anything else can. In the past, mates would share blood every month or two to strengthen each other,” Dirue said much more calmly than I felt.

“How do I feed it to her?” I growled at the healer as I sat beside Nissa on the bed. Bright was already next to her, with her head resting on my human’s shoulder.

“If she were conscious, it would be better for her to drink from here.” She tapped the place where her neck met her shoulder.

The place where Nissa had been bitten by the Beast.

“She’s obviously not conscious,” I gritted out.

“You’ll need to cut yourself and hold the wound to her mouth. It will be rather intimate, but she does need a lot of blood. When she wakes, lift her up and have her drink from here.” She tapped her neck again.

“Fine. Get out,” I barked.

Conjuring a blade of ice took less than a heartbeat, and slicing through my wrist with it was just as fast.

My fingers were gentle on Nissa’s soft, fragile lips as I parted them and then pressed my weeping wound to her mouth. My blood dripped down her chin, but onto her tongue, too.

She stirred a little as soon as she tasted me. After a few moments, she started to drink.

There was a thick, satisfying pleasure in the way the color slowly returned to her face as she swallowed my blood.
