I shattered again with more hoarse cries, and he finally let go of me—just long enough to stand over me and stroke his cock. He climaxed again quickly, covering me in his release once more as he roared his pleasure.

My body was blissfully warm and relaxed as Kierden collapsed in bed with me. He held my back to his chest, wrapping his arms around me.

“That was…” I trailed off.

I wasn’t sure I had words for it.

“The best moment of your life?” he murmured to me.

“Yes,” I admitted.

“Mine as well.” His arms tightened around me. “You’ll never be free of me now. I intend to make you mine in every way there is.”

“I still don’t even feel like I know you,” I whispered back. “I mean, I know your personality sometimes. But not well enough for me to promise you the rest of our lives.”

“A mate bond is eternal. To seal ours would be to make a promise that would last far beyond our lives in Evare, Nissa. You would belong to me on this side of the veil and the next, regardless of what the future holds in this world or the one that follows.”

“And you would belong to me too?” I asked, feeling slightly vulnerable.

“In every way there is.” His grip on my abdomen loosened, and his fingers started moving slowly over my ribcage. The brush of them was light, gentle, and absolutely blissful.

“What would that really mean for us in real life, though?” I couldn’t picture it. Or… any future for us, honestly.

“It would mean you could demand my cock, fingers, or tongue anywhere, at any time.” He nipped lightly at my ear. A long moment passed, and then he added, “It would mean that I’d take care of you before myself. You would be fed the most delicious foods. Your closet would be full of colorful dresses, more than you could wear in a lifetime. I would brush your hair, feed you as often as you let me, and rub your shoulders when they’re tight.”

My throat felt thick.

All of that sounded incredible, honestly.

“What if I wanted to be a farmer?”

He made a noise of amusement. “Then all we would need to do is move the rest of my things down here. At this point, I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to stop your magic from draining us.”

My lips curved upward.

“If we were truly mated, I would do as much as I can to ensure that there’s never a repeat of today,” he added, a bit more quietly. “I should’ve told you what I was thinking about my people. I only stopped by to check on you once, and I didn’t reach out when I didn’t find you in our room. I regret that. I have a tendency to get slightly… obsessed, when I’m working on something or trying to solve a problem.”

“You? Obsessed?” I teased him, my voice soft.

He chuckled, pulling an arm away enough to squeeze my hip lightly.

“If we were really mated, I would need to practice speaking my mind instead of getting angry or defensive,” I admitted. “I should’ve stayed with you to talk to the elves, and offered my help with the murders, even though I’d probably be useless in that situation. And I definitely should’ve told you what I was thinking.”

“I’d rather not have you near the bodies.” He squeezed my hip again. “It’s far too much risk, since we have no idea what killed them. And you are still human.”

My lips curved downward. “Would it even be possible for us to be mated, considering my humanity?”

“Our magic has already connected. If we were to seal the bond, it would become one, and the magic fueling my immortality would fuel yours as well.”

Well, I didn’t hate the sound of that.

“Can you undo the back of my scanties?”

“Mmhm.” He rumbled against me, and my lips curved upward.

Kierden undid it quickly, then slid it off my skin and pulled me closer. His arms wrapped around my middle again, his hands cupping my bare breasts, and I relaxed against his body. His cock was still hard, pressed lightly against my backside, and I loved the feel of it.

“Do you guys have the same birth control herbs that we have?” I asked him softly.
