“What if he doesn’t like me?”I breathe out

“Are you more concerned with that he won’t like you, or he will like you?”

“I don’t know. Both maybe,”I admit as I take a seat.

“Ellie, you are a smart and beautiful woman, any man would be lucky to have you, whether romantically or as a friend.”

“You are only saying that because you're my best friend, and I help make you millions of dollars.”

“Elouise Matthews,”she screeches through the phone, and I have to pull it away from my ear.“I can’t believe you would even remark something so damn foolish, but yes, you are my best friend, and being your best friend, I know you. I know the kind of person you are, and yes, I mean it when I say any man would be lucky, and this Ryan guy should count his blessings when he meets you. You are an angel inside and out,”she finishes.

“Part of me knows you are right, I guess I’m just letting the doubts of the past come rearing their ugly heads,”I say.

“Hell, you shouldn’t worry about whether he likes you or not, he should be worried about whether you like him.”

I chuckle because she’s right.“Okay, point taken.”

“Are you good now?”

“Yes, thank you.”

“So, what are you going to wear?”

“Ughhh, I don’t know,”I puff out

“Want me to come over tomorrow and help you?”

“Would you? Will Scott be okay with that?”I ask timidly.

“Yes, I will, and Scott will be at work, but to appease you both, I will let him know I will be coming to your place tomorrow. What time is dinner?”

“Seven pm at the Island Resort Restaurant.”

“Oh, fancy. Okay, I will be at your place at five. That will be plenty of time. Just breathe and relax, everything is going to be fine.”

“Thanks, Bri. I do feel better now.”

“Good. I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night, Ellie.”

“Good night, Bri.”

I hang up the phone, feeling much better than before. I decide to soak in a hot bubble bath and allow my anxiety to soak away. Ryan was very upfront and honest about only wanting a friendship. I don’t know why I’m allowing my mind to get so worked up about this meeting. Everyone meets a new friend every day. I just need to remember this.

Brianne shows just as she said she would. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I decide to wear a pale pink, long sleeve, cotton dress that comes up just above my knees, with a pair of pale pink kitten heels. My make-up is lightly done, and I finish it with a pale pink lipstick.

He wanted it casual, and I’m trying to keep it between casual and dressy.

“You look absolutely stunning,” Bri says to me as I finish putting in my earrings.

“Thank you. I’m so nervous,” I admit.

“Everything is going to be good, you are going to have an amazing night,” she tells me as she hugs me.

“You are right. I just need to not put pressure on myself.”

“No reason to put any pressure on yourself, nothing needs to happen if you don’t want it to. Just remember you get a free dinner out of this and a face to whom you’ve been speaking with, and from there, you can decide what to do.”

I nod my head. “Thank you for being my best friend and helping me tonight,” I tell her, hugging her back.
