“I do know that, stay safe, Ryan.”

“I’ll see you soon, babe,” I tell her.

“See you soon.”

We both log off. I grab my shirt off the floor, clean myself before throwing on some sweatpants and heading to the latrine.

Two hours later, we are geared up and heading out. Intel tells us, there are American civilians from A.K. Medical being held hostage somewhere. We are being sent out to save and retrieve all the civilians and destroy the terrorist cell if we can. We head out with Major Cartwright leading the way.

Chapter 8

Ellie

Three months later

Ihaven’t heard from Ryan in three months since he left for his mission after our epic skype. The news has alluded to some missing Americans from A.K. Medical, saying that they could have been taken hostage, and we may have American Soldiers missing as well. I have to wonder if this has anything to do with Ryan’s team.

All I can do is pray every night that he’s safe and not injured. His mother and I talk daily, she hasn’t heard anything, so no news is good news, in my opinion.

Today is the wedding of his brother and ex-fiancée, and I’m keeping my promise to Ryan by attending. I’m currently making the four-hour drive down to Boston, feeling nervous about meeting Ryan’s family in person without him.

I pull into the driveway of his parent’s house, taking a deep breath, I grab my bags and get out of the car. I walk up to the door and knock.

Mrs. Finnegan answers the door. “Ellie?”

“Yes, ma’am. It’s nice to meet you in person,” I answer, and she swiftly pulls me into a hug.

“I’m so glad you are here. You are so beautiful and perfect for my Ryan.”

I laugh, “Thank you,” not knowing what else to say.

She leads me into the house, straight to the kitchen, where her husband is currently standing at the stove.

“Shawn, I want you to meet Ryan’s Ellie.”

He turns around, looks at me, then says, “You are real?”

I look at him, shocked, then say, “I think I’m real. It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Finnegan.”

They both chuckle at my reply, and I smile back at them.

“Welcome to our home,” he tells me as a young man walks into the kitchen.

“Jeremy, meet Ellie. Ryan’s girlfriend.” Mrs. Finnegan says.

“Congratulations on your wedding,” I respond.

“Wow, you are real.”

“Why wouldn’t I be real?” I ask with annoyance in my voice.

“No offense, but we really thought mom was lying to us.”

I laugh because I know the truth, but Mrs. Finnegan gasps.

“When have I ever lied?” she asks.

Everyone shrugs their shoulders, and I can’t help the chuckle that escapes as I look at her.
