I clench my thighs together, God, I love when he calls me that. “Hey, I just wanted to let you know, I just left the firehouse, and I’m starting the drive up. I should be there sometime tomorrow evening.”

“Do you have the hotel booked along the route already?” he asks.

“Yes, I’ll arrive in Philadelphia tonight, sleep for a few hours, then be back on the road for the final leg of the trip,” I tell him.

“Just as long as you are careful and you get plenty of rest. Don’t try to push yourself anymore than you need to.”

“I won’t, I promise,” I say with a smile.

“I can’t wait to have you back in my arms. This last month has been brutal,” he tells me.

“Yes, yes, it has been brutal for me, taking care of everything, plus working my shifts. Yes, brutal is definitely the word I would use,” I tell him sarcastically before adding, “I’ve missed you too,” then I hear the firehouse alarm going off indicating they have a fire.

“We will talk about this later, for now I have to go, baby girl, call me tonight when you get to the hotel.”

“I will. Good luck and stay safe,” I tell him.

“You too,”he says before he hangs up the call.

I turn the radio on and make my way home.

It’s been a long journey, but I have finally made it to Largo. I left the hotel in Philadelphia at five o’clock this morning wanting to finish this leg up as quickly as possible. I stop by Cafe Brew for a pick-me-up, even though it’s almost three in the afternoon.

I walk in, and lucky for me, the line isn’t long. All of a sudden I hear my name being called, “Samantha Holland, is that you?”

I look over toward where the question came from, and I see Tyson Strahn walking toward me.

“Tyson?”

“Wow, Sam, you look great. When did you get back in town?”

“Not even five minutes ago. How are you?” I ask, hugging him.

“I’m good. I’m a probie at the firehouse.”

“Congratulations, I’m so happy for you,” I say, just as a female walks up to his side and places a hand on his arm.

“Hey, baby, this is Samantha, we went to school together, Sam, this is my girlfriend, Sharon.”

“Nice to meet you, Sharon.”

“Nice to meet you too, Samantha. Ty, we should go or we are going to be late.”

“Absolutely. Sam, I’m so glad you are back in town, maybe we can all get together for lunch or dinner sometime and catch up.”

“That would be wonderful. It was nice meeting you, and I look forward to getting to know you, Sharon. Enjoy your evening.”

“You too,” they both say in unison.

“Sam, welcome back. Your sister tells me you are moving back for good?” Brianne asks when it’s my turn to order.

“Hey, Brianne, yes, I am. I just got into town after driving from South Carolina.”

“That is amazing. I know your sister is so excited to have you back here full-time.”

“She must have been in here this morning,” I say, laughing.

“Yep,” Brianne says, laughing back.
