And there was a note taped to the top corner as well. Drake ripped it down and opened it, his jaw clenching, rage flaring up in his eyes.

I yanked it from his hand, reading it before he could stop me.

Just kill yourself. No one will fucking miss you.

Tears blurred my vision. “I hate this,” I croaked. “I hate this so much.”

Drake pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly. “When I find who keeps doing this shit, they’ll fucking regret it; I promise,” he quietly rumbled into my hair, his arms flexing around me.

I squeaked when Drake tugged on my arm, making me fall against him. We were in first period, the class we shared together. I’d been on my way to my seat, but apparently, Drake had other ideas. And normally, what Drake wanted, he got.

“Not sitting by yourself while some asshole is leaving shit like that around for you,” Drake growled, pulling me to the chair next to his where Whitney normally sat. He gently pushed me down into the seat and then took his seat next to me, his hand settling possessively over my thigh. A shiver raced down my spine at his possessive, protective touch, and warmth rushed through my veins.

My cheeks were on fire. Everyone was staring at us, and I wasn’t used to it—didn’t like it, either. But Drake was now carrying on a conversation with Kaleb like nothing was out of the ordinary. And I was sure, for them, it was usual. But it sure as fuck wasn’t for me. I liked to keep my head down. I didn’t like being noticed like this.

“You’re in my seat.”

I jerked in shock, my eyes flying up to Whitney’s angry face. Her jaw was clenched, and if eyes could shoot laser beams, I would be disintegrated right at her feet, nothing but a pile of charred, blackened ash.

I flinched back from her furious expression, swallowing thickly. “I—”

“Your name’s not on the desk, Whitney. Go sit in hers,” Drake calmly spoke up, sounding bored. My hand trembled, and somehow sensing my distress, his hand moved from my thigh, and he grabbed it, placing it where his hand had just been before covering it with his own. His heat seeped into me, warming me from the inside out and somehow calming me.

“I’m not sitting in her fucking seat,” she spat at Drake. She slammed her books onto the desk I was sitting at, making me jump in my seat. Fear slid through my chest, and the urge to lurch from my seat and run as far and as fast as I could away from her, from this situation, rushed through my veins.

A low rumble of anger sounded from Drake’s chest. Whitney leaned forward, getting in my face. I bit the inside of my cheek, my heart thumping so hard and so fast in my chest that it hurt. “Get. The fuck. Out of. My. Seat,” she snarled.

“If you move,” Drake said quietly when I turned to get up, just wanting out of this situation, “I will throw you over my shoulder and then force you to sit on my lap this entire class period.” My eyes shot up to his in alarm. He wasn’t kidding. There wasn’t an ounce of humor on his face. His dark eyes were daring me to challenge him and make him follow through on his threat.

He leaned in closer to me, his minty breath fanning over my face, intoxicating me. “And I don’t give a single fuck about what the teacher or anyone else has to say about it,” he warned me.

I jerkily nodded my head, submitting. He looked up at Whitney. “Get fucked, Brittany.”

She stomped her foot, her face red with anger and now, what I assumed, was embarrassment. “My name is Whitney!” she shouted at him before she snatched her books off the desk and stormed over to my old seat.

Drake reached up and cupped my chin, turning my head to face him. My breath hitched in my throat when he rubbed the pad of his thumb over my bottom lip. “You’re done hiding, baby, you hear me?”

Unable to do anything else, I just nodded my head, speechless. He hummed in approval before he dropped his hand, settling it back on my thigh.

I was pretty sure my heart was going to beat right out of my chest and fall into his lap.

Drake Johnson was wrecking my world…in a very beautiful, heart-stopping way.

“I need to stop in the restroom real quick,” I warned Drake as we neared it. He was tugging me along to the lunchroom, the people in the hallway parting for him like the red sea. People literally moved out of his way like they could sense him coming. It was weird and a bit amazing all at the same time.
