“You’re blowing this deal.”

“Oh really?” I asked, folding my arms over my chest. “What makes you say that?”

“All you can talk about is your fiancé,” he said, snorting. “I haven’t heard you offer Ezra one ounce of real equity you’d bring to his company the entire time we’ve been here. It’s Luna this and Luna that.” He shook his head. “You might as well bow out and just enjoy the rest of the retreat.”

I stepped closer to him, looking down because he was a good foot shorter than me. “Glad you think so,” I said, smirking. “You keep playing your game, and I’ll keep playing mine.” I winked and spun around, heading out the door.

I waited until it shut before I lost the masked, confident smile I’d put in place. I hated to admit it, but what he said rattled me on the inside.

I had been talking about Luna more than I had the deal, but then again, Ezra knew where I stood from the private lunch we had. Still, I wasn’t sure if Ezra and Ava understood the full value I could bring to their company, and I sure as hell hadn’t been making an effort to shove it down their throats like Craig had either. I needed to find a balance, but I wouldn’t apologize for being wrapped up in Luna.

And it was then that I realized while I wanted this deal, I didn’t care if I lost it. All I wanted to do was focus on what truly mattered, and that was Luna.

Fuck, I was falling for her in a big bad way.

The fact was only further driven home when I came to the table, Luna standing there alone waiting for me, looking gorgeous as ever.

“Ezra and Ava went to dance,” she said, motioning out of the private space to where the restaurant had a live band playing.

“Where’s Marla?” I asked.

“She took off after Craig left.”

I nodded, almost feeling sorry for her. Maybe if he paid her more attention than he did the business deal then she’d be here waiting for him like Luna had me.

“Dance with me?” I asked, and she looped her arm through mine as I led us to the dance floor.

The band played a slow, sultry tune, and Luna immediately wrapped her arms around my neck, swaying to the music.

I held her against me, relishing the way she felt in my arms. Something about having her here made me feel whole in a way I never knew possible, and it was really fucking hard to contain. I knew it wasn’t fair, to spring my feelings on her when she’d just gotten out of a terrible relationship, but each day was getting harder and harder to keep my mouth shut.

Luna looked up at me, her eyes open and vulnerable, her smile real and so brilliant I had to reach between and trace my fingertip along the line of her lips.

“What’s that smile for?” I asked.

“You,” she said. “It’s all for you.”

My heart expanded in my chest, and I moved us to the music, the other dancers melting into the background as if it was just me and Luna on the dance floor.

“Remind me why we didn’t do this sooner?” I asked, the question tearing through me.

Her eyes widened, but she shrugged. “I’ve been attached for years,” she said. “And you’ve played the field for twice as long.”

The truth stung, but I pushed past it. “I’d trade all those years if it meant I got a few more weeks with you like this.”

Luna visibly swallowed. “Like what?”

I drew her closer, my lips an inch from hers. “Where you’re mine.”

Something serious and questioning flickered over her features, and I pressed my lips over hers before she could respond.

Call me a coward, but I couldn’t take the rejection if she told me we were simply living out a fairytale with a rapidly approaching expiration date. And I wasn’t fucking ready to turn into a pumpkin just yet.

CHAPTER 13

Luna

Zoe: Your leather jacket pre-order just sold out!

Anne: So did your cargo pants! I got one in every color!

Lyla: I snagged the white sundress before it sold out!

Happy tears lined my eyes as I read my friends’ texts. I’d launched my site two days ago after Brad had hooked me up with his top marketing coordinator. They set me up on all the social media sites and we’d hit the ground running. All from the resort room. I couldn’t believe it. Pre-order sales were slow the first day, but today all the marketing had come into play, and my friends were giving me minute-by-minute updates.

Me: You’re all the freaking best. I owe you dinner when we get back!

Lyla: I’ll close the place for you so we can celebrate with just us.

Anne: That sounds like a plan.

Zoe: I’m in.

Me: Thank you! I’ll text you when we’re on the road in a couple days.
