His finger circles my clit. I shudder with my back pressed against his chest.

I’m already close when I feel him sheath himself inside me. I cry out, adjusting to the familiar stretch.

There’s another boom of thunder, but I hardly hear it as he does exactly as he promised.

He fucks me.

Hard.

Deep.

In every delicious way I remember.

Keeping me anchored with his arm, he grips my hair, forcing me to look at him, but my body is too wound up, and I’m so close, my eyes flutter closed.

This pool of energy will eventually leave us raw, wounded, and crumbling. I might not know how to salvage what’s left of the wreckage, but I know what I need now.

“Open your eyes and look at me, baby.”

Our eyes connect, and I explode, shivering when heat unfurls between my legs.

“Good girl. Now scream for me.”

I do.

I come with his name on my lips, clawing my nails so hard into the back of his neck, I’m sure it will leave a mark.

Lightning dances across the room, but I only see him.

He doesn’t let me go.

Not once.

You’re safe with me.

It’s a lie.

My body is safe.

I feel it with every gentle touch.

But my heart might be starting to betray me.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Iset the roasting dish on the counter and busy myself getting plates, still wiggling my body around and singing like I have a note.

I don’t.

I’m brutal.

“Ah-hem.”

My body stiffens, and I slowly straighten, turning to see Jake standing at the kitchen door. His eyebrows rise, and his amused grin is so wide, I’m sure it’s hurting his face.

It’s not Friday, but tonight is a special group dinner at the shelter. Even Amy is here.

“Please, don’t stop on my account. I’m enjoying the show.”
