He holds my chin. “I don’t want to find out.”

I sigh, faking disappointment. “You’re just a regular businessman, aren’t you? I’m not hold up with a mafia boss or anything?”

“Sorry to disappoint you, sweetheart.”

He tries to hide it, but I see the worry burning deep. He has his people looking into Rob because he’s concerned.

“One week?” he presses.

For once, my head and my heart agree.

My heart knows it might break, but it wants to stay with him, and my head knows it’s the sensible thing to do.

And I understand it. It’s the same reason I wished my father reached out after he left.

When evil hides in the shadows, it makes you doubt your every move.

My throat burns with bubbling emotion, but I swallow it back down until it dissolves. “One week,” I agree.

He kisses me again.

My heart stops.

I’m pretty sure it’s the reason I agree with everything. He makes my heart stop so much, my brain is deprived of oxygen.

It’s reckless.

“I could always have Nora fire you. I’d pay you to stay here and watch you play the damn piano every day.”

I laugh against his mouth. “Have a thing for pianos, do you?”

“I have a thing for a certain sexy brunette playing the piano,” he corrects.

He grabs my hip.

“She sounds interesting. I’d love to meet her.”

He raises his brows as his hand kneads my breast, running a soothing thumb over my nipple. I fist the sheets to stop my back from arching.

“You’d like her. She’s beautiful.”

Another kiss.

“Oh? What else?”

His lips leave mine and travel across my cheek.

“She’s smart.”

“Uh, huh?”

He presses a rough kiss to my lips.

“She has a mouth fit for sinful things.”

His hand leaves my breast, and fingers dance over my skin.

Lower.
