“God, I missed this.” I stretch out on the sand with Mandy by my side.

“I think you should move in next door.”

“That’s a great idea, but I don’t know how I feel about living on the beach during winter.” I close my eyes and enjoy the heat on my skin.

“It’s amazing,” she replies, her voice heavy as we both relax. “How’s life with your Greek god?”

I sigh, reliving the conversation we had in the car. The more I think about it, the more confused I become. “Complicated. How’s life with yours?”

She peeks at me through one eye. “He wants to try for a baby after the wedding.”

My mouth falls open. “What do you want?”

“To try for a baby after the wedding.”

“Sounds like you both want the same thing. Why do you look terrified?”

She swallows, clutching the sand and letting it fall through her fingers. “Because I am.”

My heart twists in my chest. She looks beyond scared.

“Sweetie, it’s not the same this time. You have your family. Alex isn’t going anywhere, and Ava will be the bossiest and best sister ever.”

She shrugs, but her lips slowly slip into a smile. “It’s exciting. I sometimes still need to pinch myself. It doesn’t feel real.”

I tip my head toward Ava, making sandcastles with Jake and Jay-Jay.

“She’s real, and she’s perfect.”

Sensing eyes on him, Jake looks up.

He winks.

I liquify.

He changed to black swim trunks, and now I think it should be the law to wear them daily.

Who knew making sandcastles could induce an orgasm?

“You’re having sex with your eyes,” Mandy says through her teeth, smiling and waving.

“I know.” I smile back.

“Have you talked to him?”

I grimace. “We haven’t done a lot of talking. But it doesn’t matter. I’m leaving in a week.”

Her face pales. “Is that a good idea?”

For my heart, no.

For my sanity, yes.

“I can’t keep running from it.”

The world keeps spinning.
