It wasn’t all in my head.

He’s the same man.

Same look.

The same need to feel his touch.

The same longing in our eyes.

I don’t see his ghosts anymore.

He smirks how I remember and dips his chin, making no apology when he takes a long sweep of my body and blows out a breath. It swirls around in my blood like a warm drink.

“Hi, Trouble,” he breathes.

I want to burst into tears and instantly blush.

Filling the silence, I laugh. “Are you my student?”

He chuckles, deep in his throat, and it still makes my knees lock. He shakes his head. “No. He’s coming.” Another sweep of his eyes. “You look beautiful, Claire. Happy.”

I swoon on the spot.

My chest swells. “You too, Jake.”

“Claire.” My name echoes around the room as the sight of a very familiar pair of baby blues catch mine.

“Oh, my God,” I gasp. “What have you been feeding him? Jay-Jay, you’re practically a man.”

He rolls his eyes.

Some things never change.

I hold out my arms. “Will I have to stand here all day, or are you going to give me a hug?”

A big smile and my throat stings with emotion. When his arms come around my waist, I hold him tight, ignoring his pleas to let him breathe. His hugs are still the best.

Backing away, he fixes his glasses. “You’re my music teacher?”

“It looks that way.” I glance between him and Jake. “Did you not know?”

I certainly didn’t.

“Amy.” It’s all Jake says, and we instantly know.

She’s so sneaky.

He taps his knuckles against the door. “I’ll let you two to your lesson. I’ll see you in thirty minutes, buddy.”

After a wink in my direction, he leaves, and it takes all my power to stop my feet from running after him.

With a shaky breath, I keep my attention on Jay-Jay. “Okay, I want to hear every song you learned while I was gone.”

“You look a little flush, sis,” Amy teases as I open the gate to my mother’s house. I move into my new place next week, but until then, I’m here.

It’s freezing.
