Once upon a time, I thought I could have her only once, kiss her only once, and simply get her out of my system.

I was such a fool.

Only hours since I last had her, when she woke me in the middle of the night, her sleepy eyes making me hard the minute they locked with mine, and I’m getting withdrawals.

It’s been almost eight years since she walked into my office for the first time, and I’m still addicted to her.

My thirsty eyes drink in every curve as she moves on the seat, lost in her own creation.

Sometimes she plays music I recognize, but mostly I think she’s making it up because she’s that brilliant.

Pieces of her hair fall from the knot she’s tied it in.

I could watch her forever and never get bored.

Her fingers slow, and a smile curls on the corner of her mouth, but I can only see half of it, and I feel cheated.

The world should see her smile.

“You’re creeping again,” she teases.

“I’m the biggest pervert.”

She laughs, and I think it sounds better than the music she was just playing.

Turning, she presses her palms flat against her thighs, stands, and takes a bow when me and Ella clap.

“Great audience.” She smiles and my chest tightens like it always does when she flashes that smile.

I made a vow to her—to love and to cherish. But I also made a vow to myself—to make sure I see that smile every day.

Ella ducks close to my ear, still holding onto my head. “Give Mama a kiss, Daddy.”

I dip my chin. “My wish is your command, Princess Ella.”

Claire puts her hands behind her back and sways. I tilt her face back with my fingers under her chin, needing to look at her properly. Her breath sweeps across my wrist. I pull at her mouth, parting her lips, needing my next fix.

The kiss is deep but too quick.

Not enough.

“Okay, little lady.” I scoop Ella from my shoulders. “I think it’s your nap time.”

Claire rolls her eyes, giggling.

Bending, she takes Ella’s hands and kisses each of her fingers like she always does. “Sweet dreams, baby girl.”

She eyes me when she stands, a mischievous curl to her lips before she stretches to reach my ear.

This woman will be the death of me.

“If you can get her to sleep quick enough, I’ll be in the shower.”

I’ve never tucked my daughter in so fast.

“Get ‘em, Ella,” Claire roars as the waves wash in on our feet.
