“You’re blushing, Bethany Rose.”
“I’m not, and don’t call me that.”
I take a step forward while he takes one back.
“Are you reading dirty books again?”
He’s teasing me.
I hate it.
“Logan, put the book down.”
My skin prickles like there’s a bomb about to go off.
I swear the world spins in slow motion when I see him scanning the words. His eyes widen, and the tension returns to his shoulders.
Why couldn’t he have opened one of my tamer books?
I’m pretty sure the hero was just tying the heroine’s hands to the bed while he grabbed her throat and called her a “Good little slut.”
“Oh, God.” I hide my face with my hands, defeated. I wait for him to finish without looking at him.
I’m dying.
“You’re into this?”
I still don’t look at him, but his voice carries no judgement. He sounds curious, and dare I say it? Turned on?
“Look at me,” he rasps, sending a shiver down my spine. I do, but I still want to stick my head in the boiling water. “Now answer me.”
“Doesn’t everyone like to be praised for their good work?” He steps closer as I throw my hands out. “I don’t know. It’s weird, isn’t it?”
Another step.
“What is?”
“That I could be into…” I wave at the book in his hand. “That?”
Another step.
“Why is it weird?”
I swallow.
I’m sure he hears it because he’s slowly getting closer, his frame beginning to crowd me until I can hardly breathe. If he touches me, I’m going to combust.
Shame I shouldn’t feel rises to heat my cheeks. “After my past, I shouldn’t be into that.”
“That’s fucking bullshit,” he snaps, but he sounds more offended on my behalf.
“It’s stupid. It’s just a book. I don’t know if I’m into it, and I don’t need to know… Logan, please stop doing that.”
That look is enough to make my legs give up on me.
I press my hand to his chest as he reaches me, feeling his heart pound and his muscles tense beneath my palm. My head tilts back to meet his eyes, and what I see has me holding back a moan. With a stare so heated I’m panting, my clothes feel heavy on my skin.
“Do you trust me?”
