She smiles with teeth still too big for her mouth. It’s adorable. “I know. You tell me every night before I go to sleep.”
Because I mean it every night and she deserves to hear it.
A tap at the door has our heads snapping up from our bubble. It’s Maria. “Logan is downstairs.” She holds out a hand to Hannah. “Want to help me get your sister ready for bed?”
“Sure.” She jumps off the bed and runs to Maria, but not without saying, “Love you, Mom.”
“Love you too, baby girl.”
Maria flashes me a familiar smile. “Have a good night.”
And then they’re gone.
I can’t help but wish they weren’t because now I have to go on a date with Logan.
“I can do this.” I chant under my breath until I reach the top of the stairs.
And there he is.
Looking as gorgeous as ever, only tonight he’s forgone the jeans and T-shirt for charcoal slacks and a white button down.
I’m drooling again. I know it.
As I reach the bottom step, he places a kiss on my cheek. “You are beautiful.”
“Thank you.” I eye the bouquet of flowers he’s holding. “Flowers? Really?”
“I don’t usually go the cheesy route, but you’ve never been on a real first date. I wanted to make it as cheesy as I could.”
I take the flowers from him and inhale the scent. “Great start. You going to serenade me, too?”
He tuts. “That’s third date behavior.”
“I always thought third dates were about getting in each other’s pants?”
“After the serenading.”
“Of course. Sorry, my inexperience is showing.”
“There’s time to teach you.”
After putting the flowers in a vase, I follow him outside where the damn motorcycle awaits.
“You can’t ride a bike in what you’re wearing.”
He slips his arms into his leather jacket which he somehow makes work with slacks.
“Why not?”
Why not?
I don’t know.
“You’re really going to make me get on that thing, aren’t you?”
He simply raises his eyebrows, his answer in the defiant grin he casts me.
I try to glare at him, but my cheeks are sore from smiling. “Fine,” I huff, stepping forward to grab the helmet.
