There’s no shock on his face, only the flash of a smile. The one that makes my breath catch in my throat.

He knew.

He knew I loved him all along.

Curling his fingers under my chin, he tilts my head back and presses a soft kiss to my lips.

Hannah gags and Isabel giggles.

We both laugh against each other.

The room is suddenly filled with the soft murmur of Logan's voice, all attention trained on him.

“And I love you. More than I ever thought it was possible to love someone,” he starts, his gaze never leaving mine. “You have no idea how much you've changed my life. From the moment you stepped foot into it, you gave it meaning.”

He then looks at Hannah and Isabel, his smile gentle, full of love. “And you two… You two own my entire heart.”

He takes a deep breath then, pulling back to look at me once more. There's a certain look in his eyes, a promise of the future, of the lifetime we're about to spend together. “Now say it, baby. Say yes. I need to hear what it sounds like, because I plan on making you say it again someday soon.”

I smile through the tears flowing down my cheeks.

Taking a deep breath, I look at Logan, my eyes darting between him and the girls, this new life he’s offering me. I think about my dreams, my passions, my future. My heart swells at the thought. At the opportunity. At him. And then, with a smile that threatens to split my face in half, I let the answer roll from my mouth.

“Yes.”

Fifty-Five

Three months later…

Iasked Logan to come to the studio before he leaves for the evening. I’m usually home by now with the girls, but if I don’t do this, I’ll chicken out and it’ll swarm around in my head until it drives me crazy.

The studio is set up and ready to go. My camera stands on the tripod in between two box lights, illuminating a simple white background. I have no idea how this is going to turn out, and I have a feeling it’s going to wreck me emotionally more than frustrate me if it doesn’t turn out right. I check the lighting one more time, already knowing it’s perfect, but the nerves have begun to bounce around in my stomach until I’m nauseous.

Shifting from my heels to toes, I go into the back to check my phone again. Maybe he can’t make it. I expected him to be finished forty minutes ago.

I hardly have time to second guess it when I hear my name. Exiting the back room, my stomach flips when I set eyes on him. That smirk zings across my skin.

“Sorry, I got held up with a customer,” he explains before his eyes ping-pong from the studio setup to me and back again.

“That’s okay.” I try to take a step, but my feet remain stuck to the floor beneath me.

His eyes fall to my bare feet, lifting along the length of my body before settling on my face. I cross my arms to hide the tremble in my hands.

“What’s going on?”

What if he doesn’t agree? What if he thinks this is a crazy idea?

I’m unable to find a coherent thought while he searches my face. I cast my eyes to the floor, as if the answers will magically appear there.

This was so stupid.

Four slow but determined strides and he’s so close he robs my next breath.

“First of all…” He slips off his jacket and drapes it over the chair before grabbing my chin between his fingers and forcing me to look at him. “You’re too fucking far away.”

I try to smile but even my cheeks shake. He presses his lips to the corner of my mouth, then the other side before finally capturing me in a kiss so gentle yet so invigorating, I forget why I’m scared. He pulls away too soon, leaving a dizzy fog in his wake.

“You’re nervous.” It’s not a question.
