“And offering her a house,” Logan adds smoothly, an amused smile dancing on his lips.

I glare at him.

He chuckles.

Kim slaps my arm.

It hurts.

“She needs one of those.” She points to that damn sign. “Her house is for sale.” Why is everyone so obsessed about my living situation? “Where?”

“A town called Pine Falls.”

Well, shit, he didn’t say it was there.

The mention of the town adds another layer of shock to Kim’s face, if that’s possible.

I can’t help but interject, my gaze flickering between my sister and Logan. “And I was about to refuse. It’s very kind, but I can’t.”

Her mouth falls open. I resist the urge to stick my fingers in there and laugh to myself. “What is wrong with you? This is exactly what you’ve been looking for. We spoke about Pine Fall, remember? Because it’s so close to where I live. Or have you come down with amnesia?”

Shut up, Kim.

Shut. Up.

She continues, “You know Pine Falls is only thirty minutes from me, right?” Grabbing my arm, she takes a deep breath, and turns to Logan. “If you’ll excuse us for a moment.”

Before I can protest, she drags me inside, shutting the door behind us. Instantly, she rounds on me.

“I’m just dying to get into whyhe’sstanding on your doorstep right now. But let’s focus on the immediate crisis. What the hell is wrong with you? You need to go see that house.”

“What I need is for you to calm down.”

She prods a finger at my forehead. “No, you need to wake up. You ever hear of that story about the man that got caught in the flood?”

“Seriously? You’re going to do this right now?”

She ignores me. “A boat comes along, offers help. But the man refuses, claiming God will save him. Same story with a helicopter later on…” She’s totally mutilating this story. “The poor fucker dies, and when he gets to heaven, he says, ‘God, why didn’t you save me?’, and God says, ‘What do you mean? I sent you a boat and a helicopter.’”

I roll my eyes, acutely aware of our audience standing on the other side of this door.

“He’s your boat.”

When she sees my lips twitch, she throws her head back in a frustrated groan, pushing me out of the way to open the door again. Her scowl swiftly morphs into a beaming smile.

“Sorry about that,” she says, leaning against the door.

Logan shrugs those broad shoulders. “I’d much rather be a helicopter.”

I hold a hand over my mouth as she glares at us both. “For heaven’s sake. Here.” She hands him her phone. “Put your number in there. Once I’ve knocked some sense into my dear sister, she’ll contact you to view the house.”

“Kim!”

She shoots me a warning look. “Nope, you don’t get to object right now. You’re desperate.”

“I’m not desperate—”

She silences me with a finger to my lips.
