“Absolutely.”

They both answered at the same time, and it was cute how much alike they already seemed.

She just had one more question, “My mom told me that she came to check on the pack a few days after the attack and ran into a wolf that was not from here. If you were okay, who did my mom run into?”

Christopher thought for a moment, “It must have been someone from Blue Ridge. Alpha Darius Bane is a friend of ours and his pack lays between ours and Blood Moon. He heard of the attack and sent us help. Unfortunately, they were too late to save everyone, but they helped in the aftermath.”

“It sounds like they are good friends to have. Thank you for telling me all of this.” It was so nice to finally have some answers. It didn’t answer all of her questions, but it did answer the ones about that night. For now, that was enough.

Standing up, Marshall held out his hand to her. She put her hand in his and he pulled her to her feet.

“How about a little tour?”

Smiling, she nodded, “I would love that.”

Chapter 6.

Aiden

After leaving Marshall’s office, he headed to his own to try and get some work done. He and Marshall ran a successful architecture and construction company together. Aiden mostly handles the architecture side, and Marshall deals with the construction team. Most days it was a lot of fun, but today his head wasn’t really in it.

A couple of days ago Mrs. Jones came to them with a request to upgrade her bakery down on Main Street. She wants to do a full makeover and expansion. She bought the office that was for sale next door and wants to open the walls up to make it one big space.

It was going to be a decent sized job and could be a lot of fun. She wants to go super modern, all glass and sharp lines. It’s not his favorite style but could still be interesting and would appeal to the younger crowd.

Since he had time now, Aiden figured he would draw up a few ideas, then drive out there and see what she thinks.

He grabs a few pencils and a large sketch pad from his messy drawing table and gets to work. He doesn’t know how long he’s been drawing when Marshall mind links him.

“Hey, bro we’re giving Mackenzie a tour and we are going to stop by your office, so she knows where it is. If you’re playing hide the sausage, put it away.”Aiden could sense his laughter over the link.

“Dude, I’m drawing. And you are not as funny as you think you are.”

“Ah come on, don’t be a sour puss. You’re about to see your mate.”Just then his office door swings open, and in walks Marshall like he owns the place. Mackenzie walks in behind him, a bit more tentatively. Christopher is not with them.

“Could have given me more than 30 seconds.”

This time he laughs out loud and says, “Where’s the fun in that?”

“Where’s the fun in what?” Asks Mackenzie, looking back and forth between them.

Aiden stands up from behind his desk and walks around to lean a hip on the side, “Nothing, your brother just thinks he’s a comedian.”

She’s still looking between them like she’s confused, “I don’t understand. Were you texting or something?”

Standing up straight, he takes a closer look at her expression. She really is confused. He looks at Marshall,“Maybe she doesn’t know about mind-linking. Megan may not have known. There could be a lot she doesn’t know.”

Marshall nods at Aiden, then turns to Mackenzie, “So one neat trick about wolves, is mind-link. We can talk to each other through our minds. It works with other pack members or blood relations. And it works over very long distances.”

She looked surprised, “What, like telepathy?”

“Sort of, yes. But again, we have to be connected. You wouldn’t be able to use it with someone who is in a different pack unless you are related to them. Like me and you could talk if we wanted to, but since you’re not sworn to the pack you wouldn’t be able to talk to Aiden right now.” Marshall explained.

“Hm… I guess that makes sense. How do you do it?” Now she looked curious. Apparently, she likes learning new things. He’ll have to remember that for later. “Oh, and how do I become a pack member?”

Marshall looked very pleased with her question, “Do you want to be a pack member?”

Mackenzie placed her right hand on her hip and the other she used to tap her chin, clearly thinking through her answer. It was the cutest thing. She cocked a hip out and fidgeted back and forth between one foot and the other, almost like a dance. It was hard to keep a smile off his face, but he really found her so adorable.
