He sat back on his heels, looking at them lying there, then glanced at Christopher, “Do you know what this is?”

He shook his head, “No. I’ve never seen- “

At the same time, Marshall and Mackenzie gasped and sat straight up like something had shocked them awake.

As they caught their breath, they looked at each other. Marshall spoke first, “Fuck.”

Well, that wasn’t very helpful, Aiden asked, “What happened? Are you okay?”

He stood up and reached a hand down to help Marshall to his feet as Christopher helped Mackenzie up.

Mackenzie was the one who replied, “We’re fine. But apparently, we have some kind of… I don’t know, destiny? Fate? Whatever it is, it sounds like some bullshit is coming our way.”

Aiden looked back and forth between Mackenzie and Marshall, “What does that mean?”

Christopher guided Mackenzie over to the chairs in the corner and Marshall followed. After they were all seated, Marshall explained what happened while they were seemingly passed out on the floor.

When they were done, he wasn’t sure what to think.

Christopher looked upset though, “You saw Rhiannon? Is she okay? And what powers? You’re werewolves. We don’t have powers other than to shift and accelerated healing.”

“Yes, she’s okay. I don’t know dad. She was very vague, just told us to trust each other.” Replied Marshall. He ran a frustrated hand through his hair. The way he was going, he would be bald in a week if he didn’t stop tugging his hair like that.

“The part I don’t get, well I don’t get any of it, but what did she mean by our mates? She said we both already met them. I don’t have a mate.” Mackenzie looked at Christopher, “My mom always told me that you and Rhiannon were mates, but she didn’t really tell me what that meant.”

Christopher took a deep breath, “Me and Rhiannon were fated mates, which means we were meant to be together. That the Moon Goddess blessed us, and our souls are one half of the same whole. There is also chosen mates, if you never find your fated mate, or if you lose them. There is also the rare occasion when someone is already in love and rejects their fated mate for their chosen mate.”

Aiden watched Mackenzie’s face as he was telling her all of this. Her eyebrows slowly lowered as she listened, and her nose scrunched up, like she was really concentrating on what he said. When he finished, she nodded, “So, how do you know who your fated mate is?”

Marshall turned to look at him, giving him a smirk. Then glancing back at Mackenzie, he explained, “The two most obvious ways are by seeing them and scenting them. When you look at them for the first time, it’s almost like you are mesmerized, it’s hard to look away. And when you smell them, they smell amazing and sweet. No one else will smell like that to you. Mostly wolves have an outdoorsy, woods like smell to them. So, you’ll know the difference.”

Aiden glanced at Mackenzie out of the corner of his eye. Her hands were clenched together so tight her knuckles were turning white. Her face was frozen in a look of surprise.

Christopher reached his hand out to gently pry her fingers apart, “Mackenzie? Are you okay?”

“Call me Kenzie, everyone else does.”

Well, that was a subject change if he’d ever heard one. This is why he wasn’t going to say anything, she wasn’t ready. They were giving her too much information all at once.

“Okay Kenzie, maybe we should take a break for now. We are overwhelming you. Are you okay?” When she nodded, he continued, “Would you like to walk around the grounds a bit? Get some fresh air? Or we can all just give you a little breathing room if you’d like?”

Kenzie blinked, then looked at him and sucked in a deep breath, “A walk sounds nice.”

Christopher and Marshall both stood. Christopher turned to offer her a hand, which she took and got unsteadily to her feet.

Aiden mind-linked Marshall,“She needs a break. She’s been a trooper up till now and I think this was just too much. We’re gonna send her running at this rate.”

Marshall nodded at Aiden, which Kenzie noticed. Glaring at them, she said “Stop it. You two are not sneaky. I’m processing, and yea, a bit shocked but I’ll be fine. I just need a few minutes to clear my head.”

She walked back over to the desk and bent over to pick up her purse, which had fallen to the floor when she passed out.

He tried really hard not to look, but when she bent over, he had a perfect view of her lovely butt. And man, who wouldn’t look, she had a great butt. As she stood back up, he felt a hard punch to his shoulder.

“Fucker. Stop looking at my sister’s ass!”

Laughing, he turned to look at Marshall,“Sorry man, couldn’t help it.”

Marshall rolled his eyes at him, walked towards the door, then suddenly stopped, turning back around to face Christopher, “William called earlier, it totally slipped my mind. What did he want?”
