After setting Fiona down next to the couch, she walked over to the closed door on the right. She opened it to find a large bathroom with a garden tub that she fully intended to take advantage of, a large glass shower, and twin sinks.

Exiting the bathroom, she turned to go through the other closed door and found a huge bedroom inside. There was a king-sized sleight bed, matching nightstands and dresser, and a huge walk-in closet with double mirrored doors. It was incredible!

“Oh my gosh, this is huge!” Turning around Kenzie noticed they all hovered in the kitchen as she explored.

Christopher walked into the room and placed her bags on the floor near the bed and turned to look at her.

He looked a little embarrassed as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked down at his shoes, “This room was always meant to be yours. Me and your mother had it all planned out before you two were even born. She uh… She painted the walls purple herself. It was always her favorite color and she said pink was too girly.”

Kenzie touched the wall she was closest too. She did love the color. It was a royal purple, which was one of her favorite colors. The living room and bathroom were both lavender, which was also beautiful.

“She did a wonderful job. I really love it.”

He just nodded and gave her a faint smile, but in his eyes, she could see the pain. Even now, after all this time, it hurts him to talk about her.

Kenzie hadn’t gotten to know her, but she must have been an amazing woman. But she had been everything to him.

She had a feeling, just this gut feeling, that the only reason he went on living was for Marshall.

Kenzie was his daughter, but she hadn’t been here. He didn’t have to keep going to take care of her. When you look at the two of them, you can see the bond they have. She doubted there was anything that could come between them. Honestly, it made her a little jealous and wistful. She had Uncle Jake and her mom, but she’d never had a dad.

Christopher looks at her like something he lost. When he looked at Marshall, it was with pride. She would never say that out loud though.

Marshall broke the silence, “Well why don’t we let you get settled in, then when you’re done, I think Aiden wanted to take you for a tour. He already explained the wolf being at your house, so I won’t make you go over it again. You’ll be safe here.”

“Okay. That sounds good. I’ll just unpack and get Fiona settled, then I’ll come find you.” She directed that last part at Aiden, who had remained quiet the whole time.

“Alright, great. I’ll probably be in Marshall’s office, but you can mind link me when you’re done if you want.” Aiden smiled, then headed for the door, the other two men trailing out behind him with a quick wave from Christopher and a “see you later” from Marshall.

Fiona was fast asleep, and she didn’t want to wake her, but also didn’t want to leave her in the carrier. She unzipped the bag and gently pulled the sleepy kitty out. She woke up with a big cat yawn as Kenzie pulled her into her chest for a cuddle.

Fiona sat still for about 30 seconds before wiggling so Kenzie would let her go, then ran off to explore on her own. She set up her food and water bowls, litter box, and her little cat tower.

Then she looked at the bags sitting by the bed.

She didn’t feel like unpacking right now, but she did want her camera. Walking over to the smaller of the two bags, she lifted it onto the bed and unzipped it. She pulled out her Nikon, then checked that the battery was charged. She wasn’t sure how many pictures she was going to take, if any, but still grabbed an extra memory card just in case.

Photography wasn’t just a job for her, it was an escape. And right now, she was feeling overwhelmed and a bit lost. Getting lost in nature, in exploring, sounded absolutely wonderful. She knew Aiden was going to show her around, she was hoping that included being outside. There was always something to photograph in nature.

Feeling as ready as she was going to be, she headed downstairs.

Oh right, she was supposed to tell Aiden. Pausing at the top of the stairs, she closed her eyes and concentrated on him. She pictured his eyes, that sexy smirk he gives her sometimes, and his butt when he bent over yesterday. Yea probably didn’t need to include that, however it made her smile just thinking about it so why not!

Then she tried to mind link him, “Uh… Aiden? Can you hear me?”

“Hey beautiful, of course I can hear you. You ready?”

Keeping her eyes closed so she didn’t lose focus, she nodded, then realized he couldn’t see her.“Yes, I’m ready.”

She heard him chuckle in her head. “Kenzie, open your eyes.”

“I’m concentrating. But right, gotta open my eyes to walk down the stairs. Wait, how did he know my eyes were closed?”

“Sweetheart, you do realize you just told me all of that, right?”Then she felt a gentle touch on her cheek.

Kenzie slowly opened her eyes, and standing right in front of her was Aiden, with that adorable smirk on his face, “I think you were concentrating a little too hard and sent me all your thoughts, rather than just what you wanted me to hear. You really just have to think about a person and give a little push toward them. Like when you move your arm or turn your head. You don’t think about it, you just do.”

Huh... Okay, that kind of made sense, “I’ll work on it.”
