“Oh wow!” She hadn’t even thought of that. Of course, werewolves couldn’t exactly go to a regular doctor, so it made a lot of sense. “That’s actually brilliant.”

Aiden smiled, “Yea. We are quite self-sufficient up here. We even have a small farm, though just a few cows and goats, the rest is fruits and veggies. No other animals. I keep trying to convince Marshall to get some horses.”

She smiled, “Why do you want horses?”

Aiden scoffed, “Doesn’t every child grow up wanting a pony?”

“Actually, I wanted a lion, but my mom always said no.” He gave her a funny look.

“A lion would eat you. At least you could ride a pony.” He had this innocent look on his face, like he was picturing riding around on an imaginary pony.

She gently touched his face, “Maybe one day your dream will come true.”

Bringing his hand up to cover hers to keep it in place on his cheek, he looked her in the eyes, “I think I have a different dream now.”

The look in his eyes made her breath catch, then quicken. She knew he was talking about her. She wanted to lean in and kiss him, but again it was too soon. So, she gently pulled her hand out from under his and changed the subject, “So what’s next on this tour?”

Aiden

Aiden decided he would let it go for now, he didn’t want to scare her away. He knew she was giving him a chance, but it was all still new for her, and she’d had a lot thrown at her all at once. Slow and steady wins the race, or so he hoped.

So going with the subject change, he told her, “Marshall said you had a glimpse of the silver lake this place is named after when you went dream walking with Rhiannon. I thought I might show you the real thing if you’re up for it?”

He watched her face light up, “Oh my gosh, I would love that! I bet the dream, if that’s what we are calling it, didn’t do it justice.”

She had the most beautiful smile. Aiden found himself saying things or trying to make her laugh just so he could see it. He took her hand again and gently guided her in the right direction, “The lake is about a 10-minute walk from here. We will sort of pass the vegetable garden on the way, so you’ll get to see that too.”

“Okay awesome. So, do pack members work in the gardens and tend to the animals and stuff as their jobs? Or do people just pitch in to help?” He liked that she was trying to understand how things around the pack worked.

He did his best to explain, “There are people who work in the gardens and people who take care of the animals. We also have the doctor and nurses I mentioned earlier, a mechanic, a small gym, and a café that are all run by pack members. We also have a café that isn’t on pack lands though, it’s in the town, and it’s owned by my sister. She didn’t want it to be a pack only kind of place. There are also several other pack owned businesses around the area, such as a school, law firm, investment company, and a bar and a dentist office.”

She seemed a bit amazed, “That’s actually pretty impressive. Wait so, you have a sister. Is she your twin? I’ve noticed that twins are a thing.”

“Yea, we tend to come in pairs. I actually have 3 twins, and 2 younger siblings who are also twins.”

She stopped walking, looking at him with a frown, “There are six of you?”

“Yea… Why did you stop walking?” She looked concerned.

“Your poor mother! I’ve only met you and I can’t imagine that many copies of you running around. Your mother must be made of some strong stuff to be able to handle all of you.” Then she chuckled at him and started walking again.

Aiden smiled as she pulled him along, “She is a great mom, and my dad is pretty awesome too. I honestly have no idea how they did it. We were a handful. Luckily when Eddie and Felicity came along, we were already fourteen and mostly kept out of trouble. We would take turns babysitting or helping around the house.”

Thinking about that time made him nostalgic. His mom was a saint. How she put up with them, he’d never know, but he will always appreciate her for it. Aiden knew, even now as an adult, he could call either of his parents or walk down to their house unannounced and they would welcome him with open arms. That’s how it’s always been with his family.

His parents taught them about the things that really mattered in life. And he knew, as he held Kenzie’s hand, that she was the most important thing in his life now. Even above pack, above the Alpha, she would always come first. Now he just needed to show her and convince her that he was worth it.

“Your family sounds amazing. Do they all live here?” she asked as he subtly corrected the direction she was going.

They were almost there, “Yes, the whole circus of them. My parents and Eddie and Felicity live in one of the pack houses I showed you earlier, though a bit farther in than we could see. My other sisters and brother also have a place together just a few streets over from my parents. None of them are mated, so they do the roommate thing.”

“That’s cool. So, did you not want to live with them or is being in the pack house more convenient since you are the Beta?”

“Actually, it’s tradition since the Beta is second in command to the Alpha, they are always supposed to be in the pack house. Close in case they are ever needed. Of course, that’s not always the case, especially if the Beta has a big family or just doesn’t want to stay there. But I like it.” It was just more practical. Plus, having a house full of his siblings would drive him insane.

Aiden loved them, but they could be a handful.

“I can understand that. It does seem more logical, especially since you and Marshall work together for the business too.” She smiled at him again, and he almost lost his train of thought, “Thank you for telling me about your family.”
