Behind them she heard Aiden cough, like he was hiding a laugh. She said, “I look forward to that sir.”

William dipped his head again, then looked at Marshall and Christopher, “We have things to discuss before the festivities begin.” As he started to walk toward the pack house he looked back over his shoulder, “Come along my new friend. You are the Alpha’s sister, and it seems the Beta’s mate. This is a conversation you are to be a part of.”

With that, he turned, offering his arm to Corine and the two headed to the pack house. Christopher and Aiden followed behind.

Marshall leaned close to whisper in her ear, “That went smoothly. I think they like you.”

When she looked at him, he was smirking. Apparently, he had enjoyed that. She poked him in the ribs making him squirm. Huh, it seemed he was ticklish.

She whispered so she wouldn’t be overheard, “Smoothly? I think Corine almost swallowed her tongue, and someone should really pull the stick from her butt. William does seem nice though.”

He started leading her in the direction the others had gone, “Corine is definitely a bit full of herself, but she is dedicated to our kind. William and Dad have been friends for years. William was a kind of mentor for Dad. He is a very fair leader and always has the best interests of the packs in mind. He is a good friend to have.”

They entered the office to see everyone was waiting for them. Guess they took a little longer than they should have. Marshall led her to the couch and sat down next to her, then motioned for the others to sit as well.

Aiden sat on her other side, and the others took the chairs across from them.

Marshall broke the silence first, “So what is this meeting about? I assume it’s important or you would not be here.”

Corine was the one to speak, “There has been activity with Blood Moon. Andre is up to something, but we can’t figure out what. We wanted to see if you knew anything, and to warn you if you were not aware. After the last time he stirred like this, we are concerned.”

Marshall’s mouth turned down in disdain and she noticed Christopher almost looked like he wanted to hit something. Aiden just sat there, listening.

Marshall asked, “What have you seen?”

This time it was William who spoke, “There have been dozens of trucks coming and going, transporting something, but we haven’t been able to determine what. The patrols are double what is normal, and there are visitors almost daily. They never stay long, and we haven’t been able to see who they are. There is also a ring of magic around the boundaries. Sabine’s spies say it is a cloaking spell.”

Christopher growled, “And that is all you know?”

Kenzie mind- linked Aiden. “Who is Sabine?”

“She is one of the witch council members.”He slipped his fingers through hers, gently squeezing her hand. “This is bad.”

Marshall had a contemplative look on his face, like he was thinking of all the possibilities. Then he glanced at Christopher, “Do you think this could be related to the attack earlier?”

If Christopher was mad before, his face now looked like it was turning purple, “If he thinks he can attack us again and survive, I’d like to see him try.”

William looked at Marshall, “What attack?”

Marshall explained about the events of this morning with Aiden filling in the blanks for the parts that Marshall was not there for.

Corine huffed. This woman made a lot of unflattering noises, “You let them get away.”

“We chased them, but they had a head start, and somehow, they covered their scent. We couldn’t track them.” Marshall stated, looking frustrated, “But we do know at least one of them was from Black Falls. A pack member who recently escaped them recognized his scent as one of her torturers.”

That made both council members perk up, William asked, “Who was it and who recognized him?”

Marshall hesitated only a moment, Kenzie knew he didn’t want to bring Sorcha into it. “All we know is that his name is Dimitri, and from what it sounds like, he was a monster. Most of that pack is corrupt. It should have been disbanded years ago.”

She noticed he only answered half of the questions and hoped they wouldn’t notice. Aiden, apparently thinking the same thing, distracted them by asking, “Could the two packs be working together? Two monsters combining forces for some unknown reason.”

William’s face still gave nothing away as he said, “That could be very concerning. We need to find proof of what is going on. We were not able to convict Andre before. He has had decades to plan whatever this is. We need to be prepared this time.”

They couldn’t convict him? He was a murderer! She wanted to ask and started to speak when she noticed Christopher looking at her. He shook his head just slightly, enough that only she would notice.

“Later Kenzie, I will explain.”

“Okay.”She had another question though.“Why did they come all this way just to tell us that Andre was up to something? Isn’t that something they could have said over the phone?”
