“Don’t look at her. She’ll take it as a reason to continue to argue,” Nash muttered.

“You do know there are three of us,” Ford said.

“Ha, she’d still win,” Fin added.

Chapter9

They climbed into the ATV, and Bee and Monica ran alongside as they left the stables. Ford drove them out to his land. His land, which he had gone from not wanting to being excited about.

What he was not excited about was Nash questioning him. He’d have to have words with Luna, tell her he was okay and to call her man off.

“I love it here,” Maggie said from beside him.

“Me too, Tigger.”

Ford stopped where his house would be built. The location would be amazing for both sunrises and sunsets. He’d thought about what he’d plant. Not much because the beauty was all around him, but some. He wasn’t a gardener, but he didn’t mind cooking when he wrestled Mom’s apron off her. Maybe some herbs and a few fruit trees.

“This is a beautiful place to have a house, Ford,” Maggie said, turning in a circle after she’d gotten out.

“Dad picked it actually, but I think he got it right.”

Ford rolled out the plans, and they all looked at them. Maggie predictably picked out things she’d change.

“As these are the final plans, and this is my house, you don’t get a say, and I’m not your henpecked boyfriend either.”

“All true,” Fin said. “I think your plans are perfect, bud.”

Maggie sighed. “They are, but I just think your kitchen could have been bigger.”

“I’m the only one in it.”

“For now,” his sister said.

He grabbed her in a headlock and ran his chin over her head, making he squeal.

Ford had gone long and low with big decks that led down to what would be a lawn. Timber and stone. Three bedrooms. Why he’d gone for three, he had no idea but thought one would be for his models and the other for guests.

And maybe there could one day be a woman in your life.A vision of Autumn in his arms at the hotel filled his head at that exact moment, but he pushed it aside. She wasn’t for him. Far too gentle and soft. If he ever decided to let a woman into his life, it would be someone who could adjust to ranch life and work alongside him. Someone who had no problem with waking up alone because he couldn’t sleep.

“You got anyone lined up to build or you doing it with our help?” Fin asked.

“I’m going to get it to the framing stage, then we’ll do the rest.” He wasn’t like Nash, wanting to build from the ground up. He’d do enough though to feel like his touch was all over the place he’d live out his days in. “I’ll get things started as soon as I get permits and approvals through.” Ford yawned wide enough to make his jaw crack.

“He’s yawning again,” Nash said.

“What?” Maggs turned from Nash to look at Ford.

“Haven’t you noticed he’s always tired and has those smudges under his eyes?”

“Cut it out, Nash.”

“Luna was the one who mentioned it,” Nash continued on, undaunted by Ford’s growled words. “She noticed he always looks tired and like shit.”

“I work hard,” Ford protested. “And I do not look like shit!”

“So do I, but most days I don’t look like hell.”

Maggs moved closer and looked up at Ford. “I’ve never noticed because he always looks like that, but now I’m really looking and can see what you mean.”
