The dog raised its nose, and Monica touched it.

“Aww, they just booped noses.”

“What?” Ford looked at his brother.

“They booped noses.”

“You’ve been around your hot city girl for too long.”

“You know I hate it when you call her that.”

“Which is exactly why I do it.” Ford grinned.

“So what are you calling her?” Nash nodded to the dog again, who had stopped shivering as clearly she and Monica were now best buds.

“I’m not naming her. I don’t even know if I’m keeping her.”

Nash made a scoffing sound that had Ford’s teeth grinding.

“Crash?”

“Any girls you know called Crash?”

“Misty?”

“Come on, bro. First the booping and now you come up with a name like Misty.”

“Give me a minute here. I’m just getting started and need coffee,” Nash muttered, heading to the break room. “The kids are coming today.”

“What kids?” Ford followed him and grabbed a mug.

“The kids for their lessons after school. Remember, Mom said we’re helping out the school once a week.”

“That’s today?”

“Yup.”

They often helped kids who wanted to learn to ride. Jack Trainer did too, and between them they had the lessons covered.

He wondered if Ritchie would come and then dismissed it. There were plenty of kids in Ryker Falls without Autumn’s son wanting to learn to ride.

Ford went out to inspect a piece of land they were thinking of leasing to one of the local growers and spent some time checking fencing. He moved from one job to the next and gave orders to the hands that needed it. He loved the work—thank God he was able to do it and not stuck in an office somewhere.

Ford smelled of sweat, so he went to the house before the kids arrived to wash and change his clothes. After a shower, he dressed and headed to the fridge. No point in being hangry when he was dealing with children.

Nash was seated in his chair drinking coffee when he walked into his living area. His dog was seated at his feet, getting an ear rub.

“Make yourself comfortable.”

“Comfortable is not what I’m feeling about now.”

Ford studied his brother. Nash looked tense.

“What’s happened?”

“You want to explain to me what the hell this is?”

The blood in his veins literally ran cold as he looked at the piece of paper in his brother’s hands. “That’s addressed to me. You have no right to read my mail.”
