He was a handsome man. Tall, slim build, and he always wore the best clothes. Fancy brands bought with the money his parents gave him. His hair was blond and short, cut in an expensive salon, although it looked a little unkempt now. His eyes were also bloodshot.

“Go home, Nick.”

He grabbed her arm and pulled her out the door. She tried to shake free, but he was stronger than her and had her outside before she could stop him.

“Let me go!”

“Look. I didn’t want to come here, but I had to. You need to help me, and you won’t take my calls.”

“I told you I’m not helping you anymore. I don’t have money, and I’m not calling your parents. You need to grow up, Nick.” She tried to shake free, but his grip tightened.

“These guys mean business, Autumn. I did some stuff and it turned bad. Now they want their money back.”

“Nick, I have no money. Go to your parents.”

“They won’t help.” He looked angry. “Some shit about me growing up and needing to learn a lesson.”

“Hallelujah. Finally they’ve cut you off,” she muttered. “Now let me go. I won’t help you, and you need to leave town.”

“No! You don’t understand. No one messes around with them. You have to call my parents and tell them you need money for Ritchie; then you can give it to me.”

“How can you ask that of me? It’s dishonest, and I won’t do it.”

“You might want to think real hard about releasing her before I break your fingers.”

Nick released her at the deep, growly words. Autumn stepped back into Ford’s space. His hands settled on her shoulders. One slid down to her wrist, lifting it to examine the red marks left by Nick’s fingers.

“Who the hell is he?” Nick asked.

“I’ll be your worse fucking nightmare if you touch her again,” Ford growled.

“Is he serious?” Nick was trying to look amused but in fact looked terrified.

“Deadly serious.” If a look could drop Nick, Ford’s would have done that by now.

“It’s okay, Ford.”

“No one grabs you like that. No one drags you anywhere.”

She could feel the anger in the big strong body at her back. Easing out of his grip, she moved slightly to look up at him. His jaw was tight, eyes narrowed, and all his focus was on Nick.

“Everything okay out here?”

Great, now Nash had arrived.

“This asshole put his hands on Autumn,” Ford snarled.

“And who is this asshole?” Nash moved to his brother’s other side, face serious. They now presented a wall of big, muscled anger.

“I’m her ex. This doesn’t concern either of you, so go play with your friends.”

“Name?” Ford snapped.

“I’m Nicholas Connors. My family—”

“I don’t give a fuck about your family. I care that you were hurting Autumn.”

Nick had never taken the time to read warning signs, and right now they came in the form of two angry brothers. He’d once fooled her into thinking he was a good, kind man, but she was no longer a fool. He was spoiled and self-indulgent and had never worked a day in his life.
