“No,” Gabriel shook his head, and I let out a breath I had been holding. “But it is not looking good.”

“Where is Aria?” I asked, my eyes darting toward the living room.

“With Cassie and Jake,” he said. “They are doing what they can to help him.”

“Where are they?” Patricia asked.

“Upstairs,” Gabriel said, sipping his coffee. “Cassie’s room.”

Patricia nodded and ran upstairs.

“Where are the others?” I asked as I sat down at the table.

“Jack, Annie, and Blake are in the living room,” Gabriel mumbled, looking down at his cup of coffee.

“Is Aria okay?” I asked worriedly.

I wanted to go to her, but I needed to let her help her friend. My presence there would only be a distraction.

Gabriel nodded. “Her head is fine. She was distraught, though.”

I sighed and nodded. I hope Zack will be okay.

Aria’s POV

I heard the bedroom door open, and I looked up. Patricia walked inside and gasped.

“Oh, Zack,” she mumbled as she walked closer to the bed.

“I found your bag,” I said. “I stitched him up. I gave him an IV and some painkillers. He should be fine.”

She lifted the blanket and looked over the wound I had stitched. She looked up at me and smiled.

“You have done an amazing job,” she said. “Well done.”

I nodded and looked back down at Zack. He was pale, but he looked better than he did when I came back to the house.

I heard Cassie crying silently behind me. I stood up and walked over to her, wrapping her in a tight hug. Jake was rubbing her back softly.

“It’s okay, Cass,” I said quietly. “He will be okay.”

“Thank you,” she said. “You saved him.”

I shook my head and pulled back so I could look at her. “No, Cass. You saved him. If you didn’t stop the bleeding, he would be dead right now.”

“You both did an amazing job,” Jake said, wrapping his arms around us. “I am so proud of you.”

Cassie and I smiled through our tears and melted into his embrace. I felt him kiss my temple and I smiled.

“Cassie…,” we heard mumbling coming from behind us.

Cassie gasped and looked over my shoulder. She wiggled out of Jake’s arms and ran toward the bed.

I turned around. Zack was mumbling, and his eyes were slightly open. He was looking around the room, searching for something. Or someone.

“I am here, Zack,” Cassie said and grabbed his hand.

He looked up at her and smiled. “My Cassie…”
