“I’m sure that entered into his evaluation regarding hiring Alex.”

“Alex deserves good thing to happen to him and his sister, Kira. She’s here in San Diego. I know Alex took a day earlier this week to go see her.”

“I’d talked to him when he came back, and he seemed happy. He said Kira was blooming here by the ocean, that he felt it was really helping her to come out of some of her depression.”

“Wonderful,” Sky said. “He worries a lot about her.”

“She’s the only family he has left. And they’ve always been close to one another. I’m hoping the salt air, the ocean, and the sun will help Kira.”

“Alex is a healer by nature. He’s a natural born medic. I know he is a trained black ops guy, and a stand-by sniper also, but his real love is serving and helping those who need help.”

He nodded. “I think Jack is looking at him to perhaps, after a few years of doing missions, create a department that would solely be medics that could help us out in the field. They save lives.”

“Well,” she whispered, kissing him softly, “you have certainly helped save my life, too.”

“Hey, what are you girls doing tomorrow? The day before the wedding?”

“Ummm, Lauren’s staying at the condo to make sure the florist and all the other details are taken care of…”

“And you and Abby? What do you have planned?”

She pushed her fingers through her tangled hair. “If it’s okay with you, I’d love to take Abby out to our hidden cove? I told her about it this afternoon and she remembers it. We thought we’d go out there together and just enjoy the quiet, undisturbed beauty of the day. It’s a special place for Abby, too. We’ll take a picnic lunch, and I want to take more photos of the tidal pools for possible future art projects.”

Cal slowly sat up, leaning against the headboard. The moonlight caressed Sky’s body, making her look like a Greek goddess sculpture he’d seen at the Louvre Museum in Paris. She was extraordinarily beautiful. Caressing her hip, he murmured, “Why not? You’ll be alone, no prying tourist eyes. Have fun.”

“We’ll be back about four p.m.,” Sky promised. “We want to avoid rush hour traffic coming back down I-5 to Coronado. And we have the big dinner at The Del for everyone at seven p.m. tomorrow night. If we get home at 1600, that’s plenty of time to get cleaned up and put on my new dress.”

“Sounds good. I’m going to be out with the guys tomorrow. We’ll be working over at HQ putting the final touches on the hall where we’ll be getting married. I think Lauren will be having the flowers delivered, the runner laid down, and all that detailed stuff.”

“I can hardly wait to see it,” Sky breathed, excited. “But,” she murmured playfully, giving him a wicked look as she eased her leg across his body, “Abby and I are going to have the most fun tomorrow. All of you are going to be in work mode.”

Cal groaned as she settled against his erection. His hands automatically fell around her hips. “Woman, you know how to get my attention.”

Smiling softly, Sky slowly slid against him, watching his eyes glitter with hunger. “I want you, Cal…”

He met her smile with a feral look. “You’re such a tease, Ms. Lambert, soon to be Mrs. Sky Sinclair…”

“Did you getthe pictures you wanted?” Abby asked, leaning over Sky’s shoulder and peering at the digital photos she’d taken earlier. They sat on Cal’s dark blue blanket in their secret cove.

“I think so,” she said, and Sky held up one picture in particular to Abby. “Look at this one. The colors are phenomenal!” The breeze sifted by them. They had spent an hour on the rocks at low tide photographing nearly every tidal pool nestled between the damp, rounded rocks.

“Ohhh,” Abby whispered, “I like that one!” She sat down cross legged, facing the ocean. “Will you draw that one in pastel chalk?”

Sky smiled, her legs tucked beneath her. The sun felt delicious upon her skin. They wore white tees and dark colored shorts, their feet bare as they sat on the blanket. “I think so. I just love drawing, Abby. I’m not very good at it, but I love putting colors together, smearing them with my finger and watching it make a third color. Sort of magical.”

Abby chuckled and opened the picnic basket she’d carried with them. “Cal said you were very good. I don’t think you should shortchange yourself.”

Sky pushed strands of hair off her brow. She frowned. “Abby?”

“Yes?”

Pointing out toward the ocean, she said, “Look at that…”

Abby lifted her chin. There was a small sea plane coming in for a landing not far from where the waves were forming. “Wow, a sea plane.”

Sky took several photos of the white and dark gray striped plane landing. They could barely hear the engine as it shut down and the pontoons drifted expertly onto the smooth ocean’s surface. Today, without much wind, Sky noticed the ocean was almost like glass, the waves very small compared to when she was here with Cal the other day. “Cal said there was a lot of sea plane traffic in the area, mostly civilian.”
