“I don’t know how. And now when Kent gets back and finds out that I told his parents he was interviewing for another position, he’ll be mad at me.” The thought weighed on her.

“I wouldn’t worry about it. If it was that big of a deal, he would have mentioned it was a secret. From my experience, nothing good ever comes from secrets.” Harvey pressed a hand to his chest as his brows drew together and his lips pursed.

She stepped closer. “Are you okay?”

He nodded as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a roll of antacids. He popped a couple into his mouth. “I don’t think the pizza I had for lunch agreed with me.”

“Are you sure that’s all it is?”

He nodded before sending her a reassuring smile. “I’m totally fine. Although I have to get back to work.”

As Harvey strolled away, Sara was left wondering about his comments about nothing good ever coming from keeping secrets. Was he referring to Kent not telling his parents about his interview? Or was Harvey referring to something else—something like her growing feelings for Kent? No, it wasn’t possible. She hadn’t mentioned anything to him about the growing attraction between her and Kent. And that was the way it was going to remain.

It was complete.

It was a beautiful sunny Thursday afternoon with a gentle summer breeze. And the refreshed lobby was now open for business. Talk about a lot of foot traffic. The wedding party had already started to arrive.

Sara had just finished checking in the parents of the groom when a familiar face showed up. Sara made her way around the check-in desk and rushed toward Josie. “You’re back.”

“You make it sound like you had some doubt as to whether or not I’d return.”

“Well…I mean, you do have a hunky guy on the West Coast who’s crazy about you. It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities for you to decide that you can’t live without him in your life and stay there.”

Josie smiled. “Don’t think the thought hadn’t crossed my mind a few times—especially when he dropped me off at the airport.”

“But you’ll see him again soon, right?”

Josie nodded. “He’ll be here in a couple of weeks. But enough about us. I can’t believe this is the same lobby.” She stepped farther into the room and let her gaze meander through the area. “When Kent first mentioned this refresh idea, I have to admit that I wasn’t so sure about it. But this… Wow! You two really outdid yourselves.”

Heat warmed Sara’s cheeks. “I’m so glad you like it.”

Josie glanced around. “Where’s my brother? I thought he’d be here for the praise.”

“I… I don’t know where he is. I haven’t seen him today.” And she wasn’t about to mention that he had an interview. She’d made that mistake once. She wasn’t about to repeat it.

Josie stopped walking and turned to her. “You’ve gone above and beyond. I’m really impressed with all you’ve done. There’ll be something extra in your next paycheck. And, I’ve been planning to do this, and now seems like the right time. I’m promoting you to manager.”

Sara gasped. “You are?”

Josie smiled and nodded. “I’ve been watching the way you go out of your way for the guests. That’s what makes this inn special. People remember when people are nice to them. It makes them want to keep coming back.”

Her heart pitter-pattered. “Thank you so much. I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t. And now that Lane is in my life, I’m going to need some flexibility in my schedule.”

“No more working all day and all evening?”

“Not all of the time. Lane has been pressing me to find some balance in my life.”

They continued to talk for a few more minutes. Sara caught her up on everything going on around the inn, and then she updated her on the Carrington wedding.

“Thank you, Sara. You’ve made my time away stress-free. And now you should start your vacation.”

“But I’m not due to start it until next week.”

“And I’m the boss, so I say go. Enjoy yourself. Consider this bonus time off.”

“But the wedding…”
