He pushes the door open with his foot and leans against the frame. My stomach jumps as his dark eyes flicker across my skin like it’s still bare. I’m covered in his jogging pants and jumper; the only skin on display are my feet.

“Cleaning?”

I half laugh and push past him as I leave the bathroom. “I think I’m a bit above the pay grade of a cleaner.”

Fingers wrap around my wrist, but it doesn’t take much to stop me. I turn willingly.

His smile is hidden behind his beard, but I see it. “I never mentioned pay.”

“You think I’ll work for free?” I’m not sayingclean, because I won’t become his maid.

That grin is there as he pulls me closer. My skin burns where he touches it.

“What job do you want?”

Everything inside me quivers. Is he trying to sound sexual, or is that just in my head? He’s off-limits. It’s madness to even have these thoughts. I take a step closer to Tomas.

I want to offer to be his private dancer. I want to kiss his full bottom lip. My gaze trails up to his dark eyes. “Your secretary?”

His grin can’t be hidden behind the beard anymore. The teardrop on his face rises, a reminder that he isn’t a man to mess around with.

His phone buzzes and his fingers slip from my wrist. I know he could feel how fast my heart is beating, but he says nothing as he steps around me. I die a little when he answers the phone.

“Nick.”

I internally shiver. He rang my brother. Maybe that’s all I’ll ever be to Tomas—Nick’s little sister. I turn and watch him roll his shoulders as he speaks.

“You knew she was working at Pinks?”

I’m ready to intervene. He has no right to tell Nick my business. Tomas glances at me over his shoulder, and I keep my mouth shut.

“You need to keep a better fucking eye on her.” His angry words surprise me. I fold my arms across my chest and lean against the wall as he runs his hand across the back of his neck. Everything about him is sexy, even his neck. It’s wide and I want to run my hands across it. He glances at me again, and I look away.

“Nick, I can’t keep her here.”

My excitement deflates. Just like old times, I’m being pushed to the side. I move past him, and he doesn’t stop me. I don’t want to hear the conversation because I know how it will go. Nick will tell him to drop me off at my aunt’s, but I’m not going there. Her new boyfriend gets handsy after a few drinks. I can take care of myself, but I shouldn’t have to sleep with a chair under the handle of my bedroom door.

I enter his kitchen and open his double-door fridge. It’s empty and some of the inside still has plastic on it. I close the door and swallow down a scream.

His eyes search my face. “I just moved in.”

“What did Nick say?”

“He’s on business.”

I laugh at that. “Yeah. So take me to my auntie’s.” I step away from Tomas and the fridge and sit down on one of the high stools.

“That’s exactly what he said, but something tells me you don’t want to go.”

I shrug and he takes a step closer. I like being alone with Tomas. I like finally getting to see him. I glance around his kitchen again. It’s all metallic and gray. It suits him.

“Her boyfriend has roaming hands.” I’m ready to grin, but Tomas steps closer to me and takes my face in his hands. The contact jerks me straighter.

“He put his hands on you?” His brows draw together.

I get caught up in the three dots beside his left eye. “Yeah, but I can handle myself.”

He releases my face but doesn’t step away. “Does Nick know?” Tomas sounds cautious with his words, and I’m starting to think he remembers a very different Nick than the brother I have now. I sense that Tomas has been sheltered from my brother’s antics, and sheltered isn’t a word anyone could use for Tomas. Those eyes are dark, filled with violence and cruelty, and they have my head in a spin.
