Prologue

Kiwi

Their conversation looks tense as I jog toward them. Bash and Addie are on top of each other as usual, but it’s Axel and Koda I’m surprised are feet apart. Koda is mostly hidden behind the most terrifyingly gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen.

“Call ‘em,” Axel says smugly. “Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve kicked their asses.” Irritation flashes over the dark-haired beauty’s face. I glance at him, my brow raised. He’s not usually cocky, but right now he’s the cockiest fucker I’ve ever seen.

“Spence is ready for us,” I say, interrupting their stare-off. Her glare slides to me, and I grin. Broadly. I drop my eyes to her feet and slowly lift them, scanning her perfect, tattooed body. When I get to her scowling face, I can’t help but wink at her.

There’s something about intimidating women I love.

Heather, one of the most brutally beautiful women I’ve ever met, has my dick in a chokehold. But this woman, this too-gorgeous-for-her-own-good woman, could make me forget Heather ever fucking existed if she keeps glaring at me like this.

“Koda, you wanna come, baby?” Axel’s voice is soft, softer than I’ve ever heard. He doesn’t even talk to his seven-year-old daughter that softly, and no one seems to care or even notice.

I’ll admit, I think it’s fucking annoying. But a part of me—a teensy, tiny, itty-bitty part I’ll never admit to anyone—is jealous he has someone to take care of like that.

I wink at the tattooed babe before turning and strolling back to Taz and Ryder. It’s probably best I get away from her before I do something stupid—like bend her over the closest table and fuck her stupid.

“Who the fuck is that girl?” I throw my thumb over my shoulder, and Taz’s gaze follows. He gives me a wary look before glancing at Ryder.

“Kennedy,” he says slowly. “She’s been a bartender here forever. You’ve never met her?” I shake my head, shrugging slightly before I look over my shoulder. She reluctantly lets Koda go, and if looks could kill, Axel would be a pile of ash. “Oh shit. I know that look.” I snap my head back to Taz, finding him pointing an accusatory finger at me.

“What?”

“Fuck,” Ryder groans. “Leave the poor woman alone, Kiwi.”

“I haven’t done anything,” I say, throwing my hands up. “Both of you can fuck right off.” Ry scrubs his hand over his face.

“This won’t end well,” he says, and Taz nods in agreement. “You remember what happened with—”

“That was a one time thing,” I snap.

“You always go way off the deep end when you get that look in your eye,” he says. Rolling my eyes, I look over my shoulder again. Axel and Kennedy are in a hushed argument, Koda, Bash, and Addie nowhere to be seen.

“I’m gonna talk to her,” I say.

“Don’t do it, man,” Taz says. “Please don’t fuckin’ do it. You don’t need another restraining order.” My hands tighten into fists at my sides, and it takes all I have not to punch him.

“Get one restraining order and suddenly everyone thinks I’m a fucking psycho,” I mutter. “Worry about yourself, hey?” I jerk my chin at him and his jaw flexes. “I won’t go crazy. You both can relax. I just wanna say hi. Fuck.”

“Yeah, right,” Taz snorts. “We don’t have time. The meeting is about to start.”

“Spence isn’t my Prez,” I say. “I’ll be there when I get there.” I look back at Kennedy again. Axel is gone, and she’s behind the bar wiping down glasses. I can’t take my eyes off her—the way she moves, the deep crease between her dark brows, the frown on her full lips.

Fuck.

What a woman.

Taz claps me on the shoulder as he passes, giving me a long look.

“Be careful, man. Pretty sure she’s stabbed a guy for feelin’ her up.” My dick jerks to attention at that and I grin at him. “You crazy motherfucker.” He shakes his head, huffing out a laugh. He and Ryder pass without another word or backward glance and disappear down the hall toward Spencer’s office.

I don’t give myself a chance to second guess myself. Whether this is a good idea, I don’t know or care.

I stalk across the room, and our eyes clash. Her dark, arched brow rises higher as she narrows her eyes. I smirk as I lean on the bar, resting my forearms against it.

“Hey, love.”
