I need to protect my family.

Kill the threat.

Kill him.

“Gonna kill him. Gonna kill him.” I slam my fist into my other hand, my vision turning black. I know I’m moments away from a blackout, from going fucking crazy and killing everyone. “Gonna kill him.”

“Kiwi!” My name echoes off the wall and I stop to look at Bash. “Not gonna kill anyone yet.” My blood hums.

“He’s a rat, Prez,” I growl. “He needs to die. Gotta kill him.”

“He’s gone,” Bash says, and the news is like a bomb exploding in the room. Everyone holds their breath, even my blackout starts to fade. Then Reid erupts.

“What the fuck do you mean he’s gone?!” he shouts. “He’s been spying on us for weeks, and you’ve known it was him this whole time. And now you know he’s gone? You’re protecting him!” He shoves out of his chair, his face red and the veins in his neck popping.

“I’m not protecting him.” Bash glares at his brother. “I went looking for him before we left to rescue Mads, and Bug said he was gone. Didn’t know where he went or when he’d be back.”

“You think he’ll come back here?” Ryder asks.

“If he knows Jackson has been taken, he won’t come back.”

I figured as much.

I start pacing again.

“Gonna find him, then kill him,” I say, my blood heating again.

“Alright,” Bash says, shocking me enough to stop and stare at him. “Find him and bring him back here.”

“Kill. Him.” Every muscle in my body is coiled tightly. “Kill him.”

“Yeah,” Bash says. “You’ll kill him.”

And that’s all I need to fucking know.

Kennedy

Ihaven’t been able to sleep. The sun is rising and I still haven’t heard from Ezra. I want to call him to make sure he’s fine, but I don’t want to distract him. But there’s a sinking feeling in my gut telling me something is so fucking wrong.

A bang has me bolting out of bed and reaching for the bat I keep under my bed. Heavy footsteps stomp down the hall and I hold my breath as I press my back against the wall next to the door. It slowly opens, hiding me.

“Kens?”

Tears prick my eyes and I drop the bat as I shove at the door. Ezra lets it swing shut and I launch into his arms. He holds me tightly to his chest, his body vibrating.

“You’re back,” I say and his arms tighten. I pull away from him, needing to see him, needing to reassure myself that he’s whole. My eyes widen. “Oh my God, are you hurt? Where are you hurt?” I step out of his embrace and take in the full state of him.

He’s covered in blood.

It’s caked in his curls, in his short stubble. It’s smeared across his face, and stained into his shirt and jeans. Flakes of dried blood fall from his boots onto the carpet.

“Ezra,” I breathe, and he takes a deep breath.

“I killed a lot of people tonight,” he admits. “But we got her back.” I nod a few times. I don’t know who Madi is, but she’s apparently important to him. To the club. “She’s safe. Her girl is safe.”

“Her girl?” I ask as I grab his hand. He tells me the heartbreaking story as I lead him to the bathroom. I ache for her, for the girl and her mother, for Ryder. For Kiwi. “Take your shirt off.” I turn the shower on and hold my hand under the water, testing the temperature.

“Why?”
