“Ezra,” she sighs dreamily, and I grin.

“Now, why did you get drunk tonight?” I turn back to the road, scanning the highway for a road to turn down so I can give her all my attention.

“I was sad,” she admits, and my eyes snap to the phone.

“Why’s that?” I want to crawl through the fucking phone and hold her as she wipes her cheek.

“I was mean to you,” she says. “And I’m sorry.”

“I already forgave you,” I say softly. “Anything you ever do or say is already forgiven.” She presses her lips together in a small frown to keep herself from crying again, and I just can’t fucking help but to smile at her.

“You mean that?” I nod as she speaks.

“With my life, love,” I say. “Don’t make getting drunk a habit, yeah?”

“I won’t,” she says, scooting down in her mountain of pillows more. “Archer doesn’t handle his liquor well.” My body surges at his name, suspicions rising.

“You got drunk with him?” I try to keep my voice even. She nods lazily, her head flopping around.

“He had to take me to the bathroom because I felt sick, but he ended up being the one to barf.” She laughs hard at that, her eyes squeezed shut and her mouth wide open. “You should’ve been there.”

“I don’t want you drinking around men when I’m not with you,” I say. She blinks a few times, her eyes still dazed as she tries to focus on the camera.

“Seriously?”

“Yes,” I grit out. “You’re mine, Kennedy. And I don’t let what’s mine party with men alone.” She scrunches her nose at me, scowling again.

There she is.

“I wasn’t alone. Spencer was there, too.”

“You’re not helping your case, love,” I say flatly.

“I didn’t know I had a case to help.” Her scowl deepens, and it takes all I have to keep my face serious.

“Do you remember what I said I’d do to you—”

“You wouldn’t.” My seriousness cracks at the horror in her voice, and I huff out a laugh.

“I would,” I taunt. “And I will.” I scan her again, frowning when I notice she’s in one of her thin tank tops. I hate that she was drunk and vulnerable around men when I wasn’t there to protect her. Even if Archer seems like a decent guy, he’s still a guy, and I can’t trust anyone to not take advantage of her.

“No,” she says stubbornly.

“You don’t call the shots, do you, love?” I lift my brows and she rolls her eyes.

“I think I should,” she huffs.

“Eh, I like things the way they are,” I say. “I’m in charge, and you follow my orders.”

“I’m not a dog,” she snaps.

“I know,” I say. “A dog behaves a hell of a lot better than you do.” Her mouth falls open, genuine shock filling her face. She sputters for a second, but I continue grinning. Looking at her with her mouth open makes me remember her on her knees, and my dick twitches.

Finally, I pull onto a side road and shut the car off. Leaning back in the seat, I just stare at her. At her beautiful scowling face, her shiny dark hair a blanket around her tattooed shoulders.

“Let me see what you’re wearing,” I say, my voice deeper. She blinks a few times, shaking her head slightly.

“What?”
