“Ian, this is Kiwi,” Kennedy says, awkwardly shifting on her feet. The dog runs to her and jumps on its hind legs, pawing at her thigh. “Hey, little guy.” She scratches behind the dog’s ear.

“He’s a biker,” Ian says slowly, narrowing his eyes as he scans me head to toe. I snort.

“You’re an observant one there, mate,” I say. Kennedy shoots me a look that could kill, and fuck if it doesn’t make my dick stir.

“Kiwi,” she grits out, “this is my son.” Everything in my body freezes.

Son.

Son.

He’s her son.

My body immediately cools, and I don’t feel as ready to kill him. Son, I can deal with. Boyfriend or husband? I’d have to kill.

“Oh, hey man.” I take a step forward and hold my hand out. He looks at it like it’s a live snake, then glances at Kennedy. Hesitantly, he takes my hand and gives me a bitch shake. “Oh, you can do better than that. Really grab it—” I grip his hand tighter, and his eyes widen. “Do it.” His hand tightens around mine, and I nod a few times, then shrug. “Better, but still needs work.”

“Leave my kid alone, asshole,” Kennedy growls, shoving my shoulder. She glares at me until I take a step away from him. Her face softens when she looks toward the kid. “Gotta go in early tonight. Is Enzo here?” She looks around his shoulder, frowning when she finds no one there.

“In my room,” he says, tilting his head back. “He’s not staying. Says he can deal with his old man.” She nods a few times, then glances at me, fire in her pretty eyes.

“Enzo?” I ask, flicking my eyes between them. It’s seriously eerie how much they look alike.

“My other son,” she says. My head rears back in surprise. She doesn’t look old enough for one, let alone two kids. She lets out a breathy laugh, the sound going to my fucking dick again. Fuck. This woman. “Ian’s best friend.”

“Speaking of the asshole,” Ian says. I glance over, finding a shorter kid swaggering into the room with an arrogant grin on his face. It doesn’t falter when our eyes meet. If anything, it just broadens.

Hm.

“Hey, Ms. K,” he says, jerking his head at her. She lifts her brows at him, but a smile she can’t hide spreads across her face.

“Hey, kid.” Her smile falls as she searches his face. “You sure you don’t wanna stay?” I can’t help but stare at her. When she’s not scowling, she looks softer. Younger. Not more beautiful, because that’s fucking impossible, just…different.

“All good.” He shrugs as he slides his hands into his pockets. There’s a bruise on his cheek, he has a busted lip, and his eye is swollen. His dad did that to him?

“You’re sure?” she asks as she chews on her lip. She grabs his arm, giving it a gentle squeeze. “You know you can stay here. Our home is yours.” He glances at me, looking uncomfortable. She must pick up on it because she drops his arm, her bitch-mask slipping back into place.

“What’s up? I’m Kiwi.” He looks at me again, and honestly, he looks unimpressed. He turns the look to Ian, and they share a silent conversation.

“Didn’t know you were dating anyone, Ma,” he says to Kennedy, ignoring me completely. “You know I’m turning eighteen in a few years. You couldn’t wait for me?” She rolls her eyes.

My smile falls as I glare at him. Joke or not, kid or not, I don’t like it—I don’t like him. Maybe I’m a territorial prick, but I don’t care. Kennedy is mine, and no one, not even some dumb fucking kid is going to flirt with her in front of me.

“Why would she ever want to get with some kid when she has a man?” My voice comes out harsh, and all eyes turn to me.

“Who’s the man?” she asks, lifting her brows, a taunting smirk on her face. Ian and Enzo choke on a laugh, and I clench my jaw as we stare at each other. Not because I’m pissed, but because I’m seconds away from kissing her.

“We both know who the man is, love,” I say, my voice low. I step toward her, and her brows lift higher.

“Wait,” Ian said, his face growing serious as he scans me again. “You’re seriously dating this guy?” His lip curls back, and I let out another laugh.

“Really, Ian?” Kennedy says, giving him an exasperated look. “No, I’m not dating him.”

“Not yet, at least,” I say, and she rolls her eyes.

“Not ever.”

“We’ll see.”
