“Do so.” Retorts Massimo defensively.

“No you don’t.” I reply bluntly. “You don’t have proof that she’s not and it pisses you off that you are second guessing yourself. You went to see her today. It didn’t go well.”

Luca turns to his friend. Eyebrows raised. “That’s where you went.”

“Shut up.” Massimo says to Luca.

“She tried to kiss you.” I continue. This time it’s Elena who looks at him.

Massimo smiles like he’s won. “She did kiss me.”

“You’re right. She did. On the cheek.” Massimo’s eyes widen. Got him! “You have a faint smudge of lipstick near your ear. It’s a partial mark. One you get from the quick turn of a cheek to avoid it being on the lips. You wouldn’t let her kiss you. I’m guessing it’s cause you felt guilty.”

He crosses his arms over his chest. Trying his best to look smug. He still wants to deny what he knows to be true. He’s almost cracked. “Why would I feel guilty?”

“Because she isn’t who you wanted. You went there to fuck her. To get the thoughts of someone else out of your head.” I don’t break eye contact with him. He takes a few steps closer.

“Is that right?” He continues to get closer. He’s stalking his prey. Me.

I nod.

“Tell me.” He’s in front of me now. Bending as he speaks so we are eye level. “Who was I thinking about?”

My eyes dart to his lips. They are slightly open. His warm minty breathe brushing my cheeks. I take a fortifying breath. “Me.”

His lips crash onto mine. His hands dive into my hair. My arms go around his neck. Damn he can kiss. He steals the breath from my lungs while simultaneously breathing new life into me.

I’m not sure how long we spend kissing. Could be minutes, or hours. What I do know, is it wasn’t long enough. We break apart when Luca clears his throat loudly. Judging by the growl that escapes Massimo’s lips he is just as upset about being interrupted.

He pulls back his lips from mine as he places his forehead against mine. “You believe me now?” I ask.

“Yeah babe. I do.”

I knew the answer but I like hearing it from his lips. Knowing he believes me and knowing he accepts the knowledge are two separate things. The latter is sometimes harder for me to read so hearing it from his lips and not detecting any signs of a lie reassures me and puts me at ease.

“You two can get back to sucking face later.” Says Elena. There is a hint of joy in her words. The hint isn’t only in her voice. Her face is radiating happiness. I’m betting her and Massimo have gotten closer in recent weeks and is happy for her husband’s friend.

“Cock blocker.” Huffs Massimo. There is no heat in his tone. It makes me turn to him.

He smiles and kisses me softly on the lips. “You pussy blocked me first.” Snaps back Elena. I laugh. A deep belly laugh. One I haven’t done in years. Three of them join me in laughing. It must be an inside joke between them and it feels good, feels right, that I was included in the moment.

“Keep your pussy and cock in your pants. We have work to do.” Says Luca. His arm now draped over his wife’s shoulders. The tender look he gives her as he kisses her temple melts my heart further. Then he turns to me. Massimo pulls me close, then has us falling to the chair I was previously seated in. Me now on his lap. His arm around my waist. Luca and Elena take up a similar position opposite us.

My body stiffens at first. I’ve never sat on a guy’s lap before. Logically I know it’s not meant to be sexual at the moment. My body, doesn’t know that. It heats up at his touch. The circle his hand is rubbing on my thigh has my stomach coiling. I’ve had my share of moments where I felt desire. Where I felt the urge to seek male comfort. I never acted on it, and it was never this intense. How long will I last? Is that all Massimo is looking for? A bed warmer? What if he doesn’t like how inexperienced I am. What if I’m not any good in bed?

Shit. Now my mind has gone down the rabbit hole. Massimo must see it. He gives my leg a pinch. “You still with us sweetheart?” The word has the affection it was missing previously. I soak it in and let myself relax further into his touch.

I intertwine our fingers and reply. “Yeah, sorry.”

He smiles, raises our hands and kisses my knuckles. “It must be hell to be in your mind.” He’s not wrong. I also don’t detect any malice in his tone.

“It can be. People don’t like when I blurt out the truth they don’t want to admit. I’ve had to learn to hide a lot over the years. Lost a lot of people who couldn’t handle my words, or didn’t like me having secrets when I didn’t share.”

“Understandable.” Comments Luca. Damn, I almost forgot they were here still. “Please don’t feel like you have to walk on eggshells around us. We welcome your honesty.”

“Even if it upsets you?” They say they want me to be me now. How long will it last? I’m convinced they will change their mind. They haven’t spent enough time with me.

Massimo squeezes his arm banded around me. “Yes. We know you aren’t speaking to be vengeful. And we like honesty.”
