It was like his whole body levitated. “Holy—” I cut his shout off by grabbing the tattered thong from beside me and stuffing it into his mouth. His eyes rolled back in his head. Like I said, my manlovedthe taste of me. With my finger in his ass, my panties in his mouth, and my pussy milking him, his entire body locked up and heexploded.

That first hot spurt of his cum inside me set me off. My mouth fell open on a silent scream as a million bombs detonated inside of me. I wasn’t sure if I came more than once, or if it was the world’s longest orgasm, but by the time I came down, my entire body was jelly.

I collapsed forward onto Holton’s chest, my own heaving. I could feel the frantic beat of his heart as he wrapped his arms around me and held me close.

He spit my destroyed thong out. “Jesus,” he said hoarsely, his throat sounding raw and ravaged. I smiled happily, becauseIhad done that to him. “One of these days you’re going to kill me.”

I let out a lazy giggle. “Are you complaining?”

“Are you fucking kidding? Not at all.”

This manhadto love me. There was no doubt about it, because I didn’t think he’d have let me play with his ass like that if he didn’t.

“Good.” I slithered my way higher up his chest so I could reach his ear. “And Holt?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“I hope you know that I love you too.”

For five seconds he stopped breathing, then his chest deflated on a whoosh of breath and he squeezed me tight. “You have no idea what it means to me that you’d give me that. I swear, I’ll do everything in my power to deserve it.”

He already did. Every single day and in more ways that I could count. Holton Clarke had earned my love and then some.

ChapterTwenty-Four

HOLTON

I movedaround the kitchen nervously, checking and double checking that everything was right, the consistency, the temperature, the flavor. I didn’t want anything to fuck this dinner up, including shitty food.

I’d always enjoyed cooking, but since Lyric had moved in, that enjoyment had grown. I liked cooking for her. It made me genuinely happy to watch her enjoy what I managed to create. I loved taking care of her any way I could, including nourishment. If I could feed her every day for the rest of our lives, I’d go to those pearly gates a happy man.

Since we’d become a couple, she’d gotten more comfortable sharing my home with me. Those walls had been knocked down and the pretense that we were only temporary roommates had been pushed aside. We started sharing the responsibility of making dinner, but tonight’s meal was important, and I wanted it to be perfect—no, Ineededit to be perfect.

She had her romance book club this evening, something I was under no circumstances allowed to attend, not that I was up for tagging along to listen to Lyric and her friends discuss romance novels. But there was a strict no dicks allowed rule, and it was enforced zealously.

Since I couldn’t be there to make sure she was safe, I’d had Sheffield infiltrate the group—okay, not really. It hadn’t taken any convincing to get her to agree to join Lyric’s book club. Apparently, the woman was an avid reader. I didn’t really care what she did in her free time, I was just happy there was someone there with proper training, who was legally allowed to carry a gun to make sure my woman was protected at all times. I’d even agreed to let Sheffield drive her home after the club ended instead of waiting out in the parking lot. I thought that was a fair compromise, but Lyric had just laughed and patted me on my cheek.

We still had no idea who’d broken into Lyric’s house, so I wasn’t comfortable with Lyric being by herself.

I knew I needed to work through my insecurities, which was why I’d gone out of my way to make a special dinner for Lyric. Because when she got home, I was going to tell her everything. No more secrets. It had been four days since we’d exchanged I-love-yous, and it had been eating me alive that I was keeping something from her.

All I could do was hope she didn’t see me as the fraud I’d started to feel like. Things had been so great between us that I was terrified to bring up the past, especially the fact that I’d hurt her.

I stood in the center of the kitchen, trying not to have a full-blown panic attack. Churro danced beside me, her claws tap-tap-tapping on the tile floor.

I looked down at her. “What do you think? It smells good, right? I hope I didn’t forget anything.”

I heard the sound of the front door opening, and some of the pressure that had been squeezing at my heart let up.

“Goodnight, Lucy. Thanks for driving me home.”

It took me a moment to remember Sheffield’s first name was Lucy. I was so used to all of us using our last names at work that I’d forgotten and almost had a mini-heart attack in the process.

“Night, Lyric. It was fun. Thanks for letting me join.”

“Of course,” I heard her exclaim happily. “The more the merrier. See you next month?”

“For sure.” Her voice rose higher as she called out, “Night boss! See you tomorrow.”
