I should probably go barricade myself in my bedroom and come up with a plan to un-knot this knot Harry and I have knotted ourselves into. But the rich fragrance of caffeine lures me in search of the coffee pot.

“Morning Granny,” I say to my grandmother who’s sitting at the table as docile as can be.

“Morning, dear,” she says with a sweet smile that’s not fooling anybody. “Did you have a nice evening?”

“Uh, yeah.” I fill a coffee mug to the brim.

“And Harry was a gentleman?” Her eyes twinkle with mischief.

I drop at the table with my overflowing cup of liquid salvation. I clear my throat. “A…a perfect gentleman.”

“Good.” With a tiny squeeze to my hand, Granny rises from the table and sets her dishes in the sink. Then she moseys out of the room.

Nova cheerfully serves me pancakes and plops down next to me. “So…?” she drags out, propping her chin on her fists.

“So ‘what’?” I say, like I don’t know exactly what she’s getting at.

Seated across the table, Mom slaps my wrist.

“Ouch!” I flinch. “Don’t wanna talk about it.” I grumble like a cranky child.

My mother shrugs. “The longer you drag this out, the worse it will be.”

My sister nods. “You can spill the beans now when it’s just us girls and you have some privacy, or you can spill them later when Dad gets back from his jog with Charlie and Edward. Those are basically you’re only two options.”

Shit. She has a point. The last thing I want is for Dad to overhear how I spent the night getting my cookies devoured by the ridiculously handsome football player I promised myself I’d never hook up with.Afterhe made an honest woman of me at a shady all-night chapel on the Strip.

Uggghhhh!

I drop my head, burying my face in my hands.

That’s when Nova grabs my left wrist. “What the hell is that?!” she shrieks.

I look up to find her gaping at my wedding ring.

Oh, damn.

Mom yanks my hand away from my sister. “Nadia Louise Chester!” Her shriek is even louder. Her gaze bounces to me.

Nova rolls her eyes at our mother. “Louise ismymiddle name, Mom.”

“Whatever,” Mom says, her eyes stuck on me. “Did you really run off andget marriedlast night?”

“It was an accident…” I grumble lamely as I slide the ring over my knuckle and slip it into my purse. I can’t stand to look at the reminder of how dumb I was last night. “And I’m going to fix it.”

“Have I taught younothing!”

I hang my head in shame.

“You can’t marry a man the first time he blows your back out! Married sex is a depreciating asset. You need to test-drive that hooptie forat leasta week before you know if it’s worth any kind of longterm commitment.”

Nova and I share a look across the table.

Madalyn dances her way into the room, singing and making funny faces at the tablet in her hands. She squeals when she sees me. “Auntie! You’re back! Wanna be in my video?” She aims her camera at me and I duck behind my coffee mug.

I did my best to clean myself up in Harry’s bathroom before I left his house. But without my usual toiletries, I don’t look much better than roadkill left for dead on the side of the highway. No way do I want video evidence of this.

Frowning, Nova stretches a hand out for her daughter’s device. “What on earth do you think you’re doing, young lady?”
