I frown. “Nuh-uh. You’re going to melt everything!”

“Look, Karli, I’m just trying to watch over the fate of our new dishes,” he tells me.

I fling up my hands in surrender. “Okay, you win. Do it your way. I’m going to take a shower.”

“Make it quick,” he yells after me as I go. “Because when I’m done here, it’s play time.”

A shiver of delight moves down my spine when he says that. “Ooh! Play time is my favorite time!” Giggling, I race up the stairs and into the bathroom.

When I’m done with my shower, I pad into the bedroom wrapped in a towel. Mason is in bed with a plastic container balanced on his sculpted chest. He’s in the middle of sucking his fork clean.

I stand in the doorway, staring at him in disbelief. “Did you…did you just eat the last piece of pie?” Grammy brought my favorite chocolate mousse treat when she came today.

He freezes with the fork in his mouth. “Um, yes…?”

“Mason!” I say, my lips instantly pushing into a pout.

“Are you mad?”

“YouknowI’m mad.”

“I’m sorry, babe.”

Something about the way he says it makes me suspicious of him. “No. I refuse to believe you finished the pie.”

He shrugs. “But I did finish the pie.” I spy the faintest smile curling the chocolate-smeared corner of his mouth. “What are you gonna do about it?”

“Mason Westbrook. You didnotfinish the pie!”

“Look, you can stand over there with your arms crossed and pout about how mad you are at me. Or you can come over here and sit on my face.Reallymake me pay for it. Up to you.”

What an asshole! He didn’t finish the pie and I know it. He wouldn’t.

“I’m gonna smother you tonight!” I’m barely holding back my laugh.

He shrugs. “As long as it’s with your pussy on my face, that’s all right.”

I charge at the bed, laughing. “You’re lucky I love you!”

My towel drops to the floor and Mason catches me by the waist, making me straddle him. I grab the container, popping off the lid, ready to dig into the pie.

And when I pop open the container, there’s pie alright.

But there’s also the most perfect pear-shaped diamond sitting atop the whipped mousse.

The lid drops from my hands and my fingers fly to my mouth.

“Mason…” I gasp and my tears are already spilling down my face.

Bathed in the soft glow of the bedside lamp, Mason stares up at me, so much love in his eyes. “Will you marry me, Karli?”

The way his voice waivers when he asks the question. The boyish grin that swells his dimpled cheeks.

There’s only one logical answer. “Yes…Yes, yes, yes!”

My giddy laughter fills our quiet bedroom as Mason plucks the ring from the chocolate and playfully sucks it clean. Then he slides it onto my finger, his eyes never leaving mine.

“I love you, Karli Brighton. You fill my heart. You keep me on my toes. You surprise me every single day with the way you love me. Promise you’ll keep me on my toes for the rest of my life. Promise you’ll forever be my wild thing.”
