MOOOOOMMMMM!

I’m at school and trying not to freak out myself, but hearing my phone beep repeatedly and seeing you ask the same questions I’m screaming in my head is really doing a number on my intestines.

I cannot take anymore Imodium without ending up with a blockage somewhere.

I know, I know – TMI.

I love you dearly and thought about this repeatedly – but please, for my sanity? Let me make this mistake that will be rectified in a year or less.

Yes, marriage on paper only.

No, Asher doesn’t know.

He’s not my dirty little secret.

‘More children’ means sex, and trust me when I say that he’s not interested… so no. No more kids. Max is it – and yes, he knows about Max and accepts him.

I haven’t known him long enough, I assure you.

He’s 32 years old – I think? Maybe 31?

I met him through a friend.

Happy? Now I’m popping Tums like they are Tic-Tac’s…

I love you – I just don’t want you to make another mistake.

I love you too… and that’s how I learn (and obviously I do NOT learn!)

Max and I will be ready at 3:30

Glancing up at the clock as the bell rang, Madison grabbed her purse, picked up her stack of tests to grade… and the bottle of Tums from her drawer. Looking down, she dusted the chalk off of her slacks and Polo shirt embroidered with the school logo… grimacing.

She should be getting married in something nicer.

“Mom – I’m gonna run by the house and change really quickly,” she announced on the phone, already driving to her place. “Can you and Max be ready to hop in the car in a few? I’m just gonna toss on something so I’m not wearing slacks to get married in.”

“You didn’t wear a dress today?”

“Mommm…”

“That’s fine. We’ll be waiting.”

Madison pulled into the driveway, nearly bent her key getting it out of the ignition, and ran inside, stripping off her clothing on the way towards her bedroom and throwing them towards the end of the hallway where the hamper was located. Opening her closet door, she grabbed the first dress she found and pulled it over her head, before taking off and getting back into the car.

As she pulled up in front of her mother’s house, she saw her standing there with Max, smiling and dressed nicely… only to see her smile fade.

“What’s wrong?”

“You didn’t put on any makeup?”

“No. Why?”

“You’re getting married.”

“Not for love, Ma… it’s on paper,” Madison said nervously and hesitated. “He’s doing this as a favor to me and Max, to help us out.”

“But he’s gonna want a wedding night,” her mother hissed under her breath as she drove. “All men want a wedding night – including your daddy.”
