“Okay – first off – this is my house, and you need to leave,” Madison snapped hotly, yanking her bedroom door shut before he could peer in there… and Asher shoved her aside.

She bumped painfully into the playpen and nearly fell over the padded railing, inside. Max, thankfully, was beside the couch and pulling himself up, watching the whole scenario unfold… making her blood boil.

Asher shoved open her bedroom door, leaned in, and then stormed out.

“So where is he?”

“I told you it’s none of your business!”

“Look,” Asher snapped hotly, grabbing her by both arms. “I’m not going to have you spreading your legs for any guy on the street and I’ve got photos showing that you had someone here…”

“It’s none of your business!” she shouted directly in his face, raging.

“It’s my business, because you’re mine!”

“No – and never will be,” she snarled. “You showed your true colors long ago and…”

“NO!” he bit back, shaking her, and she tried jerking away from him. “We’re gonna work this out just as soon as we get rid of him…”

“Get ‘rid of him’? Do you even hear yourself? THAT’S MY SON!” she rasped, feeling herself pulse with the anger seething within her. “And beliefs like that is exactly why we are divorced and going to court again. You are a terrible excuse for a father…”

“I’m his dad and I have a say in…”

“Actually,” Madison began, realizing the error of his words… and that it was time to unleash a fury like no other. “I remarried and the guy you saw here is my new husband. So tell your spies to do a better job reporting to…”

“What?” he spat in a hiss, staring at her in shock. “There’s no way you got someone to marry you after breeding that…”

“Get out,” she said flatly, pointing at the door.

The brilliant yellow stone that Eric had slid on her finger with so much gentleness was brutally ripped off her finger within seconds, shocking her. Asher moved quickly in an aggressive manner, grabbing it and causing a rush of burning pain to race up her arm as he tore the skin of her ring finger…and she felt something snap, nearly causing her to faint.

Instead, she yelped as he flung her onto the couch, bumping Max and knocking him down to the ground. Her son started crying and she scooped him up, sitting on the floor, holding him to her chest, ignoring the pain in her hand and the blood, as she stared in disbelief and horror of the man she’d once been married to.

“You need to leave before I call the police.”

“You’re the biggest user and tramp I’ve ever seen,” he snarled – and marched over to the kitchen where he flung her ring into the sink, turning the disposal on. A violent metal-on-metal noise, followed by a pop and humming sound, told her that either her ring or the disposal had just died a brutal death… possibly both.

“That’s it…” she thought tearfully, ignoring Max’s cries, and knew Asher was too far gone. She needed this documented for the court hearing and he’d crossed a line the moment he laid his hands on her. Yanking the cordless phone off the receiver base, she dialed quickly and hoped he didn’t notice.

Asher turned and looked at her… spitting towards the two of them.

“I guess I just needed to see the ‘garbage’ for what it was… What kind of stupid low-class fool doesn’t buy a diamond – and what kind of woman settles for the first idiot that would take her in?” Asher screamed at her, standing over her where she sat on the floor with Max.

“He’s a good man, the best man, and loves my son. That was my wedding ring that you destroyed and…”

She froze as Asher’s eyes widened, staring at the phone beside her. The buttons were lit up and the call was live… she could only hope it was recording everything. Slowly she raised the phone, not looking away from him.

“My name is Madison Morrison and I need a police car at this address immediately. I am injured and possibly in danger…”

Asher called her a foul name and stormed out, causing her to sag physically for a brief moment as she heard her mother’s voice.

“Asher? What are you doing… Oh, heavens! Madison? Max? Are you alright?”

Her mother knelt down beside her, her hands fluttering over Madison’s bleeding hand almost as if she couldn’t believe her eyes and didn’t know what to do.

Heck,shedidn’t know what to do!

Max was beside himself. His lower lip was quivering and his eyes looked so confused because his mama was crying. It was breaking her heart to see him this upset, which only made her hurt more.
