None of our usual avenues of information have been streaming. Every week we saw Dare and she pushed just a little harder for us to go with her plan.

She sighs. “I get you two are worried, but don’t be. It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve taken my clothes off for a stranger.”

I freeze in my shock. I never know what is going to come out of this girl’s mouth. Scar just cackles.

“Ugh,” she groans. “It’s not the stripping I’m worried about, it’s who you’re going to be stripping for. Where you’re going to be stripping.”

I grimace at her words but Dare just smiles again. This one we can all tell is forced. She starts to open her mouth, but I cut her off. “Don’t bullshit her. You know that’ll only be worse.” She sighs and lets the smile falter.

“This plan isn’t without risks,” she says instead. “I know that, but I still agreed.” She chews on her bottom lip as she thinks about it. The longer she stays quiet the more nervous I get about this.

We’re sending her into a known viper’s den. They don’t take care of their employees there. Sex acts are just an expected part of the job for the dancers at Unbidden Desires. It’s a club one of Romano’s oldest friends owns. He’s as sick and twisted as Romano is, just not as good at business.

Unbidden Desires is only successful because Romano and all of his associates exclusively use it and Romano keeps it staffed with girls he’s found through trafficking. Any that have a talent for dancing can avoid being sold again by working there.

Although, I can’t say that it’s really a better alternative. They let just about anything go.

The only reason we even considered letting Dare start working there as a dancer is because they try to lure the new girls in with a pretty facade. She will be treated well, make an unreal amount of money the first few weeks she works. Then it will gradually get worse as time passes, until they can ensure she’s stuck.

They don’t allow the worst of the worst treatment to happen to the girls that can walk away at any point. They’ll use any means they can to sink their claws into these girls and tie them down.

Dare won’t be there long enough for that to happen to her. And she’s already aware of their tactics, making them useless against her. She will be able to spot the manipulation from a mile away.

It’s still dangerous.

“I don’t ever do anything I don’t want to do,” Dare says all of a sudden. “I want to do this to help you guys. We’ve already had this whole conversation, Scar. My determination has only increased since that night at the club. After everything else that has happened?”

She’s talking only to Scar now. Her attention is fully pinned on her and I know there is so much more being said than just the words coming out of her mouth.

“Jade,” she trails off. I wasn’t even aware that she knew Jade’s history. Especially with the way she said her name just now. It’s more emotion than I’ve ever heard from her.

A shiver works through her whole body. “No one deserves to be that damaged. What happened to her, what she had to go through because of Romano and his shit stain son? After everything she had already been through, to finally start getting better and to lose what she did,” she trails off again. Unable to put it all into words. It isn’t pity in her voice at all. She’s not looking down at Jade in the slightest. There is a fiery thread of righteous anger though. That I can respect. We all feel it for what’s been done to our girls. Especially Jade as she once again has to heal a new hurt. A new mark against her soul. It’s why we saved Ciar’s body in a freezer for another special message when the time comes.

“I’m not a hero. I’m not even a killer. I can’t change those things about myself, and I really don’t want to either. But this? Selling sex without selling my body? A performance? Manipulating men to get what I want? Yeah,” she scoffs. “I can do that with my eyes fucking closed.”

Scar starts to relax as she begins to understand Dare’s intentions. The why behind the choices she made. “This is something only I can do,” she points out. “This is the only thing I can do,” she continues as she holds up her wrist to show a small tattoo of a lilac rose, one drop of red blood dripping down from the petal. The significance isn’t lost on either of us. She’s one of us, even when she’s not. It’s close enough to ours that if you know, you know. But different enough to be explained away if you don’t. “So let me. Let me do this.”

Scar huffs, but I can see the emotion in her eyes. “Fine, fine. You win, you fucking brat.”

Dare throws her head back in laughter.

“You will hit the panic button if anything goes wrong though.”

“Yes, mom,” she teases. “I do have a question though.”

Scar hums as she waits for Dare to ask. Based on the smirk gracing Dare’s face as her eyes dart to me, I can already tell it’s going to be some type of dig at me.

“If I’m a good girl, do I get a reward?” she asks suggestively, picking up a strand of Scar’s hair to twirl around her finger as she does.

I wrap my arms around her waist and pick her up, lifting her away from my girl. “You’re done,” I say without any real heat behind my words. Both women are cackling as if it’s the funniest thing either of them has ever heard.

“Relax, Bossman,” she finally gets out through her laughter. “I have moved my attention to other endeavors.”

Scar gets a knowing gleam in her eyes and I narrow my eyes at the pair. I’m missing something here. Neither seem inclined to spill though.

Scar pushes me out of her way so she can run her fingers over Dare’s outfit one more time, ensuring everything is where it needs to be. She can’t actually have any weapons on her since she will be stripping bare. She is also not comfortable enough with weapons.

Her inexperience could put her in more danger if we did give her a knife than her going in defenseless. She’s equipped with multiple trackers and panic buttons, including in her nipple piercings. All done and checked by Scar herself.
