Alec’s lips twitch at her question. I look up from my laptop to find her eyes shining with excitement. Oh yeah, she’s definitely heard more about Poison than she’s said.

I grin as I get back to creating this file on Ryans. I add notes of possible locations and times that we could sneak in and out for a quick hit. He’s still green to this world and this kill is much more about getting him out of our way. Kidnapping and torturing him would be fun, but a waste of our already stretched thin resources. We can’t afford it right now.

“It’s going to be a sex club,” I tell her. “We’re gonna have different floors for the varying intensity of kinks. A chance to explore what you might like, or just enjoy what you know you do. We’re naming it Poison, kind of like pick your poison. Specific kinks will have rooms outfitted with everything you need to enjoy whatever it is that gets you off. Food play, temperature play, BDSM, the works.”

I stop as I hum to myself, I think going after Ryans at home may be our best bet. I think we can mirror Higgins' kill to his so there’s no doubt they are connected. We can use them to send a message to not only Romano but to everyone else in our city that is corrupt.

“Safety and comfort are going to be our biggest priorities, obviously. You’ll have options of how you like to play. In private or on display. We’re going to have employees too, if people want to watch professionals, but we won’t require anyone to do things they aren’t comfortable with. I’m thinking maybe some dancers too. I’ve been learning aerial dance and that would be fun to incorporate. Having dancers hanging from the ceilings over the crowd. It’ll provide entertainment for the less experienced, help get them comfortable. But I don’t know yet. Things have been pretty crazy. I haven’t put much thought into it yet.”

An idea starts coming together in my mind about how we could send a message. Hmm, I type out a few notes alongside my reasoning for why I think we should make both of them a quick job.

I catch a glimpse of the look Alec and Rachel trade as they both let out a quiet laugh.

“That’s your haven’t really thought about it plan?”

I shrug. “It’s not like I’ve started any of the designing or plotting out what kinks go on which level. It’s still just an idea, not a full business plan.” I start to pull intel on Higgins and see what type of security he has at his house.

She rolls her eyes at my answer and I flip her off before going back to my notes. “How can you hold an entire conversation while still typing?” she asks in astonishment.

I scoff. “Are you forgetting who I live with? I would get nothing done if I couldn’t work while someone was talking to me.”

“Yeah, Rachel,” Alec teases. “Can you imagine if there were two of me?”

She snorts and I actually stop typing to look up at her in surprise. I’ve never heard anything like that come out of her mouth before. “There are two of you.”

Oh, there are? My interest is piqued as I wait for whatever Alec is going to say back. I thought the two of them were monogamous. Little boring if you ask me, but I don’t judge.

Alec doesn’t seem fazed though. “Not two of me that interrupt you when you’re working.”

Her laugh filters through the car. “Fair,” she concedes. “You do that well enough all on your own.”

The car starts to slow and I start getting ready to shut down my laptop. I finish downloading everything onto the external hard drive, double checking it’s all here before doing a factory reset. It will return the laptop to manufacturer settings with no sign of what had been on it prior. I put the hard drive in the inner pocket of my jacket, zipping it up to ensure its safety. Then slip the laptop under the front seat as Alec pulls off onto a side street.

“You sentimental about this car?” I ask. I probably should have asked earlier, but I hadn’t considered they may use cars differently than we do. I look around the interior and don’t notice anything particularly special about it.

“Nah,” Alec drawls. “It’s one of our throwaway cars.”

“Aww, you call them that too?”

Rachel rolls her eyes at my question. “He picked it up from Kade,” she explains. I laugh at that. Kade would be so proud. “He told us it would be best to be ready to throw away any of our vehicles that we bring to the house.”

Huh, look at him being all responsible and shit.

“Great. We’ll leave this car here and my guys will clean it up for us.” I pinpoint the location and send it off to Mikey. I had located a car we could take back before we even left the house. We won’t be using the tunnels, but it’s still only a short walk to our closest car from Faucher’s apartment.

Rachel and Alec seem to trust me implicitly, because they ask no questions as they start to look around to make sure they aren’t leaving anything behind. Not even how we are going to get back. I’m a little stunned by their faith in me. Lord knows I wouldn’t be able to reciprocate.

We get out of the car and start our walk. Alec and I maneuver Rachel in between the of us, causing her to huff in irritation. It’s not about seeing her as the weak link though. For Alec, it’s a statement about who his true priority is.

It’s one of the reasons the guys took issue with me coming with them. They will save each other before they save me. I’m okay with that. It’s the same with me and my guys. We will always choose each other first. I can’t fault Alec for that.

At least he isn’t a little bitch about it. He wants me to know that if it comes between me and Rachel, he’s helping her. I just happen to agree with him. I don’t think we will run into any issues, but if we do, I trust myself to get me out more than I trust either of them.

Not a bad thing. Just the way it is.

For me though? For me, putting Rachel in the middle isn’t about a statement or eve her safety. It’s about the picture we present to the world.

I hook my arm with hers and laugh when understanding dawns on her. Alec holds her other hand and we make our way down the street, chatting as if they are just any old couple and I’m just her friend.
