That’s right, we stayed up all night finalizing the plans.

“What time is it?” I yawn as I stretch my arms over my head.

“Noon, pretty girl. I just told you that,” Declan answers as he moves over to me and pulls me into his arms. “You were up late,” he chastises as he pushes tendrils of my hair out of my face and tucks them behind my ears.

“Needed to finish this,” I say around another yawn, gesturing to the papers all around us.

“I know, pretty girl. But I’m claiming you tonight. Got it?”

I immediately respond to the low growl, nodding as I bite down on my bottom lip. I haven’t spent enough time with Declan recently. With any of them it feels like. Not unless we’re on a run, or planning one, or searching for intel. I don’t get anything more than stolen moments of peace amidst all the chaos. I crave more of them.

“I have to get to work,” he tells me, dropping a kiss on my head. “Don’t forget to eat.”

“Promise,” I answer, leaning up on my tiptoes to steal a real kiss before he leaves. He complies, stealing my breath as his lips brush over mine in a gentle touch. I deepen the kiss, sweeping my tongue into his mouth. He swallows my sigh, nipping at my lip before pulling away.

“I’ll see you tonight, Scarlett,” he swears with a wink, before turning and leaving.

I sigh to myself, looking around for my phone. I can’t believe it’s already noon. “I need to check in with Ian,” I mutter to myself as Kade flips me off. I smack his ass and tell him to get up.

I pull out my phone from in between the couch cushions and hit his contact while I wait for him to answer. I give him a brief rundown of everything that’s happened, before he updates me on Jade.

Mine and Kade’s conversation from yesterday stirs in my memory. It seems the two of them stayed home all weekend after their adventure at Steel Roses. I wonder what happened. Ian sounds happier, lighter than I’ve heard him. I can hear the smile in his voice as he says Jade’s name. Something good must have happened.

Kade grumbles as I get off the phone. “Come on, big guy. I’ll make you breakfast,” I say to entice him. No one wants to deal with a grumpy Kade all day long.

He follows me into the kitchen and starts making coffee right away. I scrunch my nose as I open the fridge. I’m too lazy to go get coffee today, but I really do prefer espresso. I beam as soon as I have the doors open. One of the guys already went out and brought me back an entire pitcher of my drink.

I pull it out and pour it into a cup, finding two notes taped to the side, one from Britt calling me a spoiled cunt, she’s not wrong. And the other from Declan reminding me that I’m all his tonight.

Kade starts to slowly wake up as he watches me cook omelets for the both of us. I’m in a better mood than I was in yesterday after our meeting with Rachel. There is an essence of satisfaction that surrounds him as he realizes it.

His usual cocky manner returns the more he watches me. We keep the conversation light, steering away from anything that gets close to anything Romano related.

I think we both need the break, deserve it after the last few days.

I have no idea where the rest of the guys are, but I have a feeling they’re all doing their own versions of recuperating. I send a message to our group chat to suggest a movie night before calling Charlene and asking if she wants to bring the kids over.

I’m disappointed and worried when I hear that Trev is sick, but she’s quick to reassure me that he’s okay, but it’s best for them to all stay home. I wish I could argue with her, but she has a good point. We can’t afford to be hit with a flu right now.

Ryder responds to my message telling me that him and Luca will be back soon. They were making plans for Poison. Kade scoffs when he reads their message.

“It’s a good distraction,” I say.

“Not as good as this,” he responds, kissing up my neck. I laugh, not really able to argue with him.

We move into the living room and start cleaning up some of the papers. Just stacking them for later as we veg out on the couch. I rest my head in his lap as he plays with my hair.

I don't know how long we stay like that, talking about everything and nothing all at once while we wait for the other guys to get home.

At some point his phone starts ringing, bringing us out of our daze.

He checks the caller ID and immediately is riding that same smug wave he’s been on all day. I can’t even begin to guess why.

“What’s up, J?”

I cock my head to the side, sitting up to stare at him. He now has my full attention, and he knows it. Why is Jade calling him? He wiggles his brows at me and I flip him off. He chuckles. “I can practically hear your anxiety through the phone.”

Dammit. I can’t hear anything she says, and I know damn well he isn’t going to put her on speaker. Since when did the two of them get so close? Why isn’t she calling me? This bastard is taking way too much pleasure in the fact she called him.
