Carson has always been such an easy target. He allows himself to get so bothered by the smallest things. Pranks don’t have to be elaborate or even hard for them to ruin his entire mood and his week. Little, or a lot of, glitter on his lawn, in his car. More than enough for him to go nuclear. And best of all, not even the best money in the world stands a chance against glitter.

“Our night will be busy.”

“In the best way possible,” Hudson cackles. Brielle may be our main objective, but harassing Carson will never get old. He’s given us plenty of reasons over the years to pull our fair share on him. At least pulling this shit against him isn’t edged in bitterness and betrayal.

Speaking of.

“What news do we have of Brielle?” It’s been over a week since Hudson turned in a fake paper on her behalf. Over a week of rumors of her cheating circulating, and yet nothing has come of it. She’s been in every class, looking prim and proper as ever. Not one trip to the dean’s office at all, or even a blip on his radar. Eli’s been monitoring his emails to make sure of it.

“Seems like she made a deal with Schaubeck,” Hudson answers, handing both of our now empty plates to Eli to stack on the desk. “He’s been treating her normally.”

“Even the rumors are now dying down without the school taking any action against her,” Eli continues.

I crack my knuckles as I contemplate his words. She was pissed when she realized what we did. It means there had to have been some type of confrontation between her and the professor. I can still picture the way her blue eyes lit up with her fury. I’ve never seen Brielle so worked up. So fucking angry and entirely directed at me too.

I scoot back to sit up straighter and adjust my shorts. Fuck. Not the time to be getting hard. I don’t even want to think about what it means that picturing Bri’s temper aimed at me is what’s turning me on. I enjoyed the taste of her anger, but it only made me crave for more of it. It wasn’t nearly enough and we didn’t even get to see any fireworks between her and Carson. They seem to be better than ever.

“What if the lack of reaction is what fuels the next rumor?” I wonder aloud.

Hudson perks up, following my train of thought. “You mean?”

I shrug. “Schaubeck isn’t all that old and he isn’t terrible looking. Doesn’t seem like a hard sell to say Brielle convinced him to look the other way.”

Hudson’s eyes light up as he laughs. Eli’s eyes glaze over as he contemplates the potential outcomes of this rumor, but the slight twitch at the corner of his lips gives away he likes the idea. Ashton, though, refuses to meet my eyes. His jaw clenches as he focuses out the window. He’s been more resistant than the rest of us, but he’s done nothing to stand in our way or defend her.

I wish he would just let her go. Move on from whatever delusional theory he’s cooking up his head. Brielle is nothing but a poison to us. Better to flush her out of our systems and never look back. For his own sake, and all of ours.

“I’ll get the rumor started,” Eli announces, smiling. Of course he already has his finger on the pulse of the gossip mill at BSU. After a lifetime of friendship, I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

Oh well, I guess it’s time to get ready for a day of birthday fun.

Goddammit.

Maybe this plan worked a little too well.

I was riding on cloud nine, knowing how self righteous and angry Brielle was going to be when she heard the rumors. All through Econ, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her. Eagerly awaiting for the news of her latest scandal to reach her ears. Unfortunately, it hadn’t spread far enough fast enough for us to get to witness her first reaction.

Still, doing something, knowing her day was going to be ruined soon enough, kept a pep in my step I wasn’t sure would be possible today. I managed to keep my good day going all the way through practice. Hudson and I were unstoppable as we ran through the plays and drills. I didn’t think anything could touch me.

Who would have thought it would be the very rumor we started that would bring my good mood crashing down around me?

I’ve had to endure more locker room talk about Brielle in the last few weeks than the rest of my life combined. Not that I would have let it slide back in high school, but now, given I am one of the reasons they are even talking shit about her, I guess I have no choice. I watch as Hudson struggles to stay composed as he grabs his bag from his locker and quickly starts stripping.

It’s not just one set of guys regurgitating the rumor we started this time. No. It’s the whole goddamn room. Every conversation happening is about her and Schaubeck and predictions of just what else she’d be willing to sell her body for.

Fuck. I can’t take it anymore.

I toss my pads in the locker and grab my bag, turning to rush out of the room. Another freshman blocks my path as his friends laugh as he describes what he would be willing to do to get a taste of Brielle. I don’t even think before my hand is wrapped around his throat as I slam him against a locker.

The resounding boom silences the locker room. Confused and wary eyes turn our way.

Dammit. Brielle isn’t our girl anymore. It doesn’t matter what anyone says about her. This is exactly what I had intended to happen when I came up with the idea. Well, maybe not increasing the number of desperate dicks stalking her for a drop of her affection or attention. But people talking about her as if she’s nothing more than a common whore.

Why exactly did I want that again?

“Stay the fuck out of my way,” I growl before dropping him and storming out of the locker room. It isn’t my job to defend her any longer.

She made sure of that.
