She smiled, feeling content with herself and then we continued with our food. After lunch, I paid the bill and we returned to our respective workplaces. As I got to the office, Miguel, my friend, was just leaving. He came to drop off some documents at the finance department and he came to my office to say hi.

“Miguel,” I said, shaking hands with him.

“Leon. How’re things over here?” he asked.

“They’re great. You came to drop the financial report off?”

“Yes, I did. Are you busy on Friday? I have this art exhibition I have to attend and I thought maybe this is an opportunity for you to see what I’ve been talking about.”

“You want me to invest in the art industry so bad.”

“It’s a great investment. Art is very lucrative right now. Come with me to this exhibition and you’ll see.”

“Uhmm, I’ll check my schedule and see where to fit you and this art exhibition into,” I said, jokingly.

“Please do, my dear sir,” Miguel said, going along with the joke. “I have to go back to my office. There’s a 4 p.m. meeting waiting for me.”

“Alright man.” We shook hands and he left for his office, while I continued with my own work.

After work, I went over to Logan’s office to say hi to him. He was on a call with Adara. When he saw me, he ended the call and looked over at me.

“Can I help you?”

“Hello to you too. Work’s over. Why aren’t you going home?”

“I am. I just have to tidy up a few things. Besides, Adara just told me to pick up a few things for her from the store.”

“Can’t she have a domestic staff do that?”

“Adara likes me to get some things for her myself. There’s other things reserved for the domestic staff to do.”

“How’s Luna?”

“That little rascal. She is doing well and chewing off all the cables at home.”

“That’s dangerous.”

“I know but the cables don’t even need to be plugged. My phone charger was yesterday’s victim. I had to get another one today.”

I laughed and told him, “Alright then. I’ll see you later. Do you know if Lucian is still in his office?”

“I have no idea.”

I left Logan’s office and contemplated going to Lucian’s but my friends were hitting me up to meet them at a spot. I had to leave.

The Friday of the art exhibition came, and I went to the office first to get some work done as it was an evening event. At around 5 p.m., I closed and my driver took me to the address of the gallery Miguel had sent to me.

The place was a small, cozy gallery but it was packed with people enjoying artwork and light conversations over glasses of wine. I scanned the exhibition hall with my eyes, looking for Miguel. He must have seen me before I saw him because he approached me.

“You made it.”

“Yes, I told you I will. This looks nice.” I said as we both walked in together.

A young man who looked like he was working the event was passing by with two glasses of wine on the little tray in his hands. I collected both of them from him and handed one to Miguel. We walked over to the first painting on the wall to our left. It was that of a Japanese girl in her cultural attire, standing under the rain with an umbrella over her head.

It was a beautiful painting and I couldn’t believe there were people with such amazing talent. “You see this painting right? It was done by the owner of the gallery. I’ll introduce you to her soon. There are other amazing artists and I think it would be great if we could invest in some of them.”

I nodded at him and we continued moving from artwork to artwork like other people. Businessmen and women present there were making purchases for their offices and then their homes. I made a mental note to buy something too.
