“Why are you at work on a Sunday?” I asked.

“We work on Sundays sometimes, especially when there’s a lot of work to be done. James is around somewhere.”

“You’re an insanely talented woman. I admire that about you.” I was being very vulnerable with her right now and I could not stop myself.

“Thank you, Leon.” She said and then went back to sit on her desk, facing me. “What do you really want here this evening?” she asked.

I got up from the sofa, “I want to take you out on a date. Just one date, and if things don’t work out and you don’t want to go on another date, I’ll never bother you again.”

I didn’t realize it but I was walking closer to her only stopping when I was a few feet away from her. She stood up, bringing her closer to me. She raised her eyes to mine and held them for a few seconds. Her face looked beautiful, her lips opened and closed as if she wanted to say something but no words came out.

I took a step and I was right in front of her. She didn’t push me back or complain. Slowly, I used my hand to lift her chin so that her face was looking up to me. I lowered my lips to her face and kissed her pink lips softly. At first, she didn’t kiss me back but slowly, she started kissing me back, giving me access to explore her mouth.

The kiss was intense, our tongues gliding over each other in exchange of passion. She walked back and leaned on her desk again. I lifted her off the floor and placed her on top of the desk, so that she was sitting on it properly.

My hands went to her rich, thick hair as I ran my hands through it. A little moan escaped her lips the moment my fingers connected with her scalp. My heart started racing at the fact that her employee James could walk in here at any moment and find us but I couldn’t pull away. This kiss felt so good.

Her soft body pressed tightly against mine and her hands were running all over my back. The kiss was getting more intense and my body was beginning to ask for more. Valentina’s hands came up to my shoulders and then she tapped me.

I came out from the beautiful place the kiss had taken me to and withdrew from her. I looked at her face, her lips were swollen and her chest was heaving. She had tired lines creasing her forehead.

She gently pushed my chest and I took steps away from her. Without meeting my gaze, she said, “I’ll go on that date with you but like you said, if I go on this one and don’t want to go on another one, you’ll let me be.”

“Yes. I will.” I responded and just then, James knocked and peeked through the door.

“Valentina…” he said loudly before he paused. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize you had a visitor.”

“No, it’s fine. Leon was just leaving.” Valentina said and looked at me. I nodded.

“Yes, I was leaving. See you.” I rambled nervously before running out of the office. In the car, on my way home, I couldn’t hide my happiness. I started thinking of where to take her for a date, one that would sweep her off her feet.

Chapter16

Valentina

“What was that about?” James asked as his eyes trailed Leon out of the office and I shook my head.

“Nothing. What was it you wanted to tell me?”

“I was going to say I’m going home for the day and remind you of my dentist appointment in the morning. So, I won’t be here early.”

“That’s fine. Good night.” I said, and he looked at me weirdly.

“Goodnight.”

When he left, I immediately slapped my palms on my face. How could I do something like this? I was trying to keep my distance from him and here I was, making out and agreeing to go on a date with him. Continuing to work was not possible as my body had already been disoriented from this. I packed up, locked my office and then the gallery and went home.

On the drive home, I was thinking of how good the kiss was, the way his body engulfed mine and how broad his shoulders were. My phone ringing snapped me out of it. I looked at the screen, it was a number I didn’t have saved.

“Hello,” I said when I answered the call. There was no response except breathing.

“Hello, Who is this?” I asked. It could not be Leon because I saved his number immediately after our call earlier. After a few more seconds of silence, the line went dead. Maybe it was a butt dial or something.

When I got home, I got a message from Leon asking if dinner the next day was fine. I responded in the affirmative and went inside the house. Vivian was sitting in the sitting room, watching TV.

“You’re smiling,” she said.

“I am?” I asked, not realizing that I was smiling.
