“I hurt her,” Quasar grunted out, rocking Tess back and forth as she slept on his chest. “If she runs from us now, it’ll be all my fault.”

“Hey,” I growled, crawling up next to him, and catching his chin with my claw. “No one’s running.”

“Really? ‘Cause I’m real sure I watched your ass bolt from this very room earlier. I don’t know what you call that, but it fits the definition of running.”

“I had a temporary bout of panic,” I sniffed, turning away to examine my thumb claw. “I did not run.”

“You ran like a great big vishta was fucking kicking up the dust behind you.” Asteroid chuckled, keeping the sound deep and low so as not to disturb our sleeping mate. “Never seen a Drakon bolt from sex faster. Damned shameful, it was.”

“Oh, fuck right off.” I turned and kicked my untied boots off the side of the bed, and pulled the blanket from where it had been tossed to the floor. “You know that wasn’t what it was.”

“No,” my mate lazily agreed. “But you sure have spent a lot of time running from the things that make your life better, yeah?”

I held back the sarcastic retort which automatically blistered on the tip of my tongue.

On this, my mate and I could agree.

However, what Asteroid didn’t know was that Tess had changed my direction. I was done running away. From here on in, I would be running toward. Because some storms–like the one making the cutest fucking noise I’d ever heard as she quietly snored in sleep–were worth running straight into.

Dawn came entirely too early.Quasar groaned and rolled into me, pressing his stiff cock against my back, smacking his lips without opening his eyes. “My cock needs some attention, lover.”

“Fuck you. Your cock got plenty of attention last night.” I turned, pushing him away. “Plus you say that literally every morning.”

“So it shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, should it?” He grinned at me, eyes still closed against the burning light of the sun coming through the windows. “Wanna hand, too?”

“Where are Asteroid and Tess?” I pushed up on my elbows, looking at the wide expanse of empty mattress. “What time is it?”

“Seven a.m.” Tess came down the stairs, pulling her wild hair back in a band. “Coffee’s in the kitchen.”

She walked right past us like nothing had happened the night before, shoving her feet into boots, and grabbing her keys from where they were laying on one of the bar tables. “Where are you going?”

“Need to figure out this shit with the Drakon Hunters.” She shrugged, fisting her hands on her hips. “Can’t just sit around and wait for them to come back, now, can I?”

A roar bellowed from the tree line. It didn’t take much for me to realize it was Zinc. His dragon’s gigantic pink-hued body rose up over the early morning sun, casting shadows across the front of the bar. It was answered by Argon’s deep and throaty cry.

“Not going anywhere at the moment, mate,” I said, standing up and grabbing my jeans from the floor.

Tess said nothing, her gaze pointed very definitively at my cock. “I’m going to town,” she muttered before blinking her eyes and tearing them away from my dick. It throbbed proudly at the attention. “I’m going to talk to the bank manager again. I can’t just let them take the bar.”

Another defiant scream rocked the building.

Tess tried not to react, but I didn’t miss the instinctive hunch of her shoulders at the sound of our people rising to war. I raised a brow at her, tucking my cock back into my jeans and out of her line of sight, before tugging up the zipper.

“Not while the dragons are fighting, you aren’t. No one’s going anywhere now that the dominance battles have commenced. Our beasts won’t allow it.” I walked right over to her and lifted the keyring from her hand, then leaned in to press a smacking kiss to her lips. The all-too human growl of frustration she lobbed my way was cute as fuck. “But the upside is, we all get to watch.”

“Wait, what?” Tess made a grab for her keys, but I tossed them to Quasar, who was still under the covers, hungry eyes on Tess. “I’m sorry. The dragon’s are doing what now? Right outside my bar?”

“Fighting.” Quasar scooted to the edge of the bed, covers still wrapped around his hips. “Argon and Zinc are fighting for dominance. My bet is that Asteroid is out there, waiting for his turn. His beast wants the third spot, but I don’t see him having even a lick of a chance against Cadmium. She’s one tough female. Even if Argon is succeeded by Zinc, Cadmium will work hard to keep third. She’s had Argon’s back for longer than he’s had mates.”

Tess crossed her arms over her chest and glowered at me. “Well, your dragons better not fucking wreck my bar. I didn't see the Drakon Hunters off yesterday only to have pissy dragons tear the place apart!"

I slung an arm around her shoulders, letting loose a soft chuckle. “Don’t worry, mate. Our dragons are house trained, I promise.”

“That remains to be seen,” she muttered darkly.

But Tess didn’t resist my lead as I steered her out the door. The beast inside my middle purred in giddy triumph, relishing the scent of our intended as she leaned into our warmth, even just a little, as we moved outside to witness the creation of our Wyer.
