With a single leap, he was in the air.

I gasped, taking in the awe inspiring beast which erupted from his skin. The sight was both terrifying and utterly thrilling at the same time. Its massive wings flapped, hitting us with a downdraft which nearly blew me off the bench. I groaned and almost closed my eyes, suddenly terrified to watch what came next.

I didn’t know if I could handle this. Seeing my mate all torn up and broken, or even victorious and bloody, roaring out his victory to the skies. My mates really did turn into monsters. Their very existence dominated our horizons. How could I ever match up to such a beast?

“Watch your mate battle, little one,” Radon whispered in my ear, his breath hot on my skin as he slid closer, tail wrapping around my middle. “Watch how he fights to keep you safe. His prowess. Our people may have come a long way from our ancestral roots, but the beast inside us rules supreme. Dominance battles used to be fought for the best resources, the most elaborate homes and skins for our mates. And, of course, the best hunting rights.”

“If you’ve come so far, why are they fighting now?” I asked as the golden dragon screamed in the sky. She circled wide around the clearing, and down into the lake below, brushing her wing into the water before turning back, claws extended, right for Asteroid. “Why don’t you just toss a coin and be done with it?”

“This display of strength is his offering to you,” Radon intoned. “And, if I’m not mistaken, you will enjoy it. Watch.”

As much as I’d have liked to cut Radon a new one for being so lackadaisical about his mate’s safety, I was powerless to do anything but what he told me to do. With Asteroid up there, battling another prehistoric monster who was an equally terrifying specimen of his kind, I had to see. To find out who would be victorious. To ensure that my fierce warrior mate made it back to the Earth intact.

My chest tightened, and my body went tense, as the two beasts crashed together.

Wings flapping and claws thrashing, they dove and swiped at one another with dizzying speed.

I half buried my face in Radon’s chest, his arms circling tightly around me, but I couldn't take my eyes from the warring beasts above me. Cadmium drew first blood, the gash quick and sharp. I cried out as her claws left a trail of gore through the lavender scales of Asteroid’s side.

But he got her back immediately, his own claws rending through the precious membrane of her wing, leaving her unbalanced as they fought. My blood soared with his strike and I cheered right alongside the rest of the Stellar Misfits as Asteroid took his own pound of flesh.

“He’ll be okay, mate,” Radon soothed, but he wasn’t talking to me.

Quasar had scooted all the way into our space, his arms joining with Radon’s around my shoulders, the heat of his body pressed all along my back. It wasn’t sexual, though. Quasar was looking for comfort.

After the events of last night, I might have shrugged him off. But the call of battle was singing in my veins, now, and I enjoyed the feeling of his heat pressed close. I was also vaguely aware of how tense he was. How much he cared for Asteroid’s safety, too, so I set aside our differences and tucked one of his hands in my lap.

Asteroid trumpeted out his rage, as Cadmium made another dive at him, her claws missing his eye by mere inches. I gasped and cried out as Quasar shuddered beside me. Asteroid ignored the near miss completely, focused only on the task at hand. His jaws gaped wide as he captured the golden beauty by the throat.

The roar of the Stellar Misfits cheering all around me fell silent.

“No,” I moaned, heart in my mouth.

For a split second, I believed he was going to do it. To bite down and tear out her throat. Then she made a small noise, a chirrup of submission. He held on a little longer though, a dark rumbled in his chest.

“Please, mate.” I was on my feet now, quietly imploring. “Show mercy.”

Cadmium let out a tiny hiss of impatience, as if agreeing with my sentiment but not at all bothered that he could’ve ended her life if he chose, and Asteroid let her go.

The battle was over almost as soon as it started, but the adrenaline racing through my body wouldn't quit. Hopping from foot to foot with impatience, I watched as Asteroid changed, mid air, going from this beast to man and landing the move in liquid lunge. He unfolded to his full height, fire in his eyes, as he stalked toward us.

Asteroid looked like a viking warrior of old coming home victorious from battle. Blood dripped from the claw marks on his side, his lips were stained bright red, the color smeared from the corner of his mouth down to his chin.

The look he was sending our way should have terrified me. It should have made me turn tail and run, but instead I pulled myself from where I was tucked between his mates, and ran. He took me in his arms and accepted my fevered kisses along the patch of skin where his mating mark broiled, but when I reached down to stroke his thick shaft he caught my hand.

“No, mate.” The soft laugh he offered instead nearly undid me. It was rich and full of the promise of action. Just not yet. “While I would like nothing more than to take you up on that oh so pretty offer to lay waste to your sweet pussy, right now I must slake my thirst in Radon’s arms instead. You are not yet ready for a Drakon when they are heated from battle. I ask, though, if you would be willing to watch our coupling to see the joy that can come from a fierce warrior’s sweet submission to fate.”

I swallowed, my mouth suddenly dry and tongue thick in my mouth. Watching… the two of them? My two most dominant mates, battling between the weight of their passion? That sounded more than hot. Especially as Asteroid had motioned not to the sweet Quasar but to the scowling countenance of Radon who had gone stiff behind me at Asteroid’s words.

“Do you have a place we can go to share this private moment?” Asteroid prompted.

With difficulty, I shook off the spiral of lusty thoughts circling in my head and allowed Asteroid to lower my feet to the ground.

Once he was sure I wouldn’t topple over from the loss of him–and honestly, I got it, because my knees had turned to Jell-O and my body was definitely leaning like a tower that was about to topple over–he released my hips and stepped back. Giving me a smug grin and the space I wasn’t sure I wanted any more.

Boy, if I’d thought that my sopping panties were a lost cause before, Asteroid’s request to watch him quench any lingering battle lust in Radon had taken it to an entirely new level.

“Sure.” I sniffed, feigning indifference and scowling at him as his smirk widened. “But you’re gonna have to shower first.”
