“So spill? Did you like it? It’s a rush, right?”

“Brenna, I’m not having this conversation—”

“Yes, you twisted little flower. You are, right here, right now.”

“Brenna,” I whine.

“It was hot, right?”

My face is ten times hotter right now. I cover my face and laugh softly. Sitting up, I brush my hair back from my face and flop down on the chair outside of the throwing cages.

“You aren’t going to drop this are you?”

“It’s like you don’t know me at all.”

I snort. “Jesus. Yes, okay. He has a special pair. I didn’t think I’d like it, but..."

“You fucking love it?”

“Something like that. Not having any control. I liked it a lot.”

“That’s my girl.” She has the nerve to lean down and kiss my cheek loudly. “Mama is so happy.”

I shove her, laughing. “Get out of my face with that. I wasn’t a total hermit.”

“Well, compared to me, you kind of were.”

“You know, when we get to the waterfall at Powerscourt Estate tomorrow afternoon, I’m throwing you in.”

She laughs off my threat. We got through a little instruction on how to throw the axes, some safety rules, and then they set us loose. I’m nervous. What if I brain myself or something? Let’s face it, it could happen. I just got married, I’d like to survive a little longer.

Noah and Abel are across from us. Abel is catcalling Brenna, trying to be a jerk. It backfires. He misses the board completely, and she starts heckling him.

The poor people running this place must think we are all nuts. I laugh so hard, I can’t throw. Finally, feeling sorry for me, Noah and Brenna change places. It cuts down on the loudness our group can bring and means Noah is here to help me with my throwing form.

Nothing is better than having my husband behind me. His hands on mine showing me how far to pull back on the ax. Did I tell him I’d seen videos on form? Did I tell him I had it? Hell no. This way is much better. As he leans in, pushing my arms out straight, demonstrating the feel of the release, I press back into him.

“If you don’t stop that.”

“Stop what?”

“Mara, you will…” he trails off as I rub up against him again.

Grinning, quite proud of myself, I wait for his hands to drop from mine.

“I love you,” I say, looking over my shoulder at him.

“I love you, too. Go ahead and throw.”

“Babe!” I look over at Abel’s shout. Brenna is throwing an axe that bounces, flips back, and they have to scatter to avoid it.

I double over laughing. See, that was what I was worried about doing.

“Don’t kill him yet, heffa. The ink’s not dry on the insurance policy.” I start laughing all over again. I’m sure the people in this place are thinking all Americans are complete nutters. Nope, but some are close.

Twenty minutes or so later, my arms are spaghetti. That was a workout and a half. But it was so much damn fun. My sides and stomach hurt from laughing. My back is a little sore from throwing. I’ll have Noah give me a back rub later. He’s a master at it.

Brenna and I got a good array of pictures of each person throwing the axes, and of course there was a victory dance when we ended up tying. No one died, got maimed or injured in any way. No one is getting punished. Well, not for that at least.
