Brenna: Nothing pink or white.
Me: As if I would buy a pink tree.
Me: This ain’t Barbie’s playland.
Noah: If you need me to go with you, I’m off in a couple of hours.
Me: Thanks, baby, but I’ve got this. If I need help, I’ll call you.
Abel: What about one that already has lights?
Me: That’s a given. Wrapping lights sucks. lol
Brenna: Be careful. And no more ornaments!
Brenna: Decorations either.
Me: You’re not the boss of me, woman! ??
Brenna: Mara!
Me: Gotta drive now. See y’all at the house.
Abel: Drive safe. Don’t pick up a hitchhiker.
Brenna: Be careful.
Noah: Be safe, beautiful.
Brenna: Don’t buy the whole damn store, woman!
Laughing softly,I climb into my SUV. My cell starts to ring, the sound of a barking dog filling the space. I am not answering Brenna. She will just bitch about my wanting a big tree.
I do a quick Google search and have three choices for finding a large, pre-lit tree.
Target here in Seaside. I’ve been there and wasn’t all that impressed with their stock. Skipping over that one, I go to the next. Wal-Mart or Home Depot. Both of which are in Warrenton. It’s about 20 minutes north. Two birds, one trip.
I opened the text box for Noah and give him a detailed rundown of my plans now that I know where I’m going.
Me: Heading to Warrenton. Going to check out Wal-Mart and if I need to, Home Depot.
Noah: Okay. Do you mind grabbing me 2 kids’ toys while you’re there? Ages 4 and 7? Both girls.
Me: Sure. What kind of toys?
Noah: I pulled the names from the Secret Santa tree at the hospital. I’ll call you.
I acceptthe call the moment his name pops up on my screen. “Hey, handsome.”
“Hey there, beautiful.”
“Tell me about these toys.”
“Hold on, let me get in the car.” I wait until he is ready. “All right. This one says her name is Natalie, she’s 4. She likes doll babies and stuffed animals. The other is from Keisha. She’s 7 and loves Barbies, clothes, and makeup.” He chuckles.
“I didn’t know the hospital put up a Secret Santa tree.”
“Yeah, they do it every year. It’s for the kids in the hospital and others in the community that need help. This is a small community, but that’s not to say there aren’t some that struggle.”
