Okay. It was going to be okay. All she had to do was put her head down, prove her worth, and keep her job. Easy, since that was exactly what she had been doing all along.

But why did things like this happen to her?

Oh, she knew exactly why. And maybe her vagina had totally given up on her. But she had her shitty parents to thank for that. Parents who were currently living out their Bohemian, free for all lifestyle on some remote island, banging their brains out. Parents who didn't understand the concept of monogamy if each letter of the word was tasered into their skin every time they even thought about cheating. But worse, they cheatedwitheach other if that made sense, not on each other. Consensual cheating, they had called it.

See, it wasn't her fault; she was such a royal screwup. She had tried her damnedest to be normal even at the ripe age of twenty-four—someone who understood what it meant to be loyal and faithful to only one person. She had then put aside all her hurdles and gotten engaged, for crying out loud, to an upstanding citizen and just a really nice guy she trusted, who happened to be a lawyer.

Except Hugh Blankshaw had not been that nice after all, and so she had to call off her engagement after finding out he'd been dividing his weeknights between three women—her, MysticRose69, and Goldielickscocks—for as long as she had known him, and only two of them were giving him sex. Hint. It wasn’t her. Still, she couldn’t deny how relieved she had felt when she ended their relationship.

Now, no one could tell her she hadn’t given love a proper chance before writing it off, because she had. She'd given it 411 days, and at least ninety of those days, they were engaged, as in, she wore his ring on her finger.

Of course, she could now be accused of being engaged to a man for over a year and not put out. Which would have them draw the conclusion that, of course, it now made sense she had to share him with MysticRose69 and Goldielickscocks, who both, just for the record, earned more money than she ever would in her current career. But she had been meticulously honest from day one about her stance on sex. Hugh had told her he was beyond perfectly okay with them waiting until they got married before they did the deed. This was not because she was rigidly puritanical or anything. She just wanted to be more than sure that he was the right guy for her.

He wasn’t. End of story.

Thank goodness she hadn’t told Hugh about her parents’ open relationship and swinger status. She hated being vulnerable with anyone.

No one realized how messed up she really was. Well, except Marcy. Marcy understood her crappy emotional issues and malnourished vagina to be the spoils of the battlefield—better known as her childhood.

But then, Hunter McLeod’s gaze caught hers and seemed to penetrate every layer of defense she had erected right down to her core.

Her heart exploded. Her body melted. Her nipples hardened. Fresh wetness soaked her already-drenched panties.

Yeah no.

She quickly brushed all that aside and turned up her Ice-Maiden setting.

Indeed, she was going to die a virgin.

Chapter Three

––––––––

Determined to carryon as normal, as soon as she could, Kensley escaped back to her office immediately after saying her goodbyes to Ellis, who was already packed for Alaska. She was going to miss her old boss and tried very hard not to cry when he gave them a final salute and disappeared.

Sandra assumed her role as Hunter McLeod’s groupie and assistant and was soon ushering everyone back to work while fawning over their new boss.
